Russia ready to sell MI-35 helicopters to Pakistan: Alexey Y. Dedov

Islamabad- Russian Ambassador Alexey Y. Dedov has welcomed the resumption of talks between Pakistan and India. Dedov is currently visiting different Pakistani cities to explore avenues of economic cooperation. He also supported Islamabad's stance on Afghanistan, saying Pakistan can contribute in stabilizing Afghanistan.

He said that Russia was ready to sell MI-35 helicopters to Pakistan. Pakistan had placed an order to Russia for purchase of the latest MI-35 helicopters.

See this is very confusing.

It says Pakistan HAD placed an order.

Once order is placed, and PO is generated then the supplier and customer are bound to go ahead and can only come out of contract though litigation and termination clauses.

If Pakistan HAD placed an order, then why is he reiterating Russian stance ?


I believe both Russia and Pakistan are leaking such information to gain leverage over their desired customer and supplier respectively.

Arms deals are not like purchasing lollipops from a convenience shop, it takes time to finalize things (technical, logistics, support, spares, armaments, training, financial, etc.) and then manufacturing takes time too. Expect about 2/3 years before deliveries start

1) This isn't an order of grocery items or shoes, its a high dollar item and has military sensitivities involved. No one has choppers sitting in a shop like Candy that you can buy, fly off and do missions. There are terms and it'll take time. The order has been placed and obviously, it'll be confirmed later when they are about to execute it and actually ship choppers.

2) Conspiracy theories much in the second paragraph??? Who's Pakistan's desired "customer"? Pakistan is the buyer and they have been wanting Russian choppers for a while.....so conspiracy theories can be put to rest please.

Looks impressive. At par or may be a notch below Mi-35. As a US hardware, should be less maintenance hungry and cost effective. I don't see added armored being mentioned. AFAIK, Mi-35 has it.

Helicopters are not invisible nor are they silent, armor is needed that is why most attack helicopters and aircraft have armor. A helicopter can be seen and fired upon from miles away.

As for the frustration of lack of information. Contracts can take a while depending on conditions, also if Pakistan wants some extra or custom features it will generally take longer to negotiate and work out the details and then comes the fun part of manufacturing the aircraft.

It will take time to iron out the deal fine print. Pakistan would need to make sure that it can order, receive and maintain the choppers for their future life. Then there is the Chinese Z-10. So PAA will want to consider all options. We don't have money to waste on equipment that is of no use to our missions.
