While there was plenty on the table when PM Modi visited Russia recently, a prestigious but little spoken of programme is back on the table in earnest. After BAE Systems, EADS, Saab and Dassault, the latest contractor now apparently ready to cooperate with India in UCAV technology is RAC-MiG. The company’s discontinued Skat unmanned combat air system demonstrator.

Currently, Russia’s future UCAV platform is being spearheaded by Sukhoi with technology inputs from RAC-MiG, though sources indicate that Russia has sent feelers to India for possible cooperation in that sphere as well. The topline aviation partnerships between the two countries currently include the ongoing Su-30MKI license build in Nashik, the Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft and the Multirole Transport Aircraft.

In 2010, the Indian Air Force conducted an abortive campaign to procure UCAVs from the global market, ending up with a profusion of information, rather, on the systems available and what cooperation was possible. While no country was willing to sell systems outright — indeed, no systems are operational yet, except for the U.S.-built Reaper hunter-killer drones — several offers for cooperation were forthcoming. MiG is understood to be keen to partner with the DRDO in the AURO programme, or furnish fresh details on an outright cooperative arrangement on the Skat UCAV for the Indian Air Force

The headline is completely misleading. RAC-MIG is looking to tie up with DRDO for th AURA UCAV under devlopment as are Dassualt interestingly enough.

Russia has little chance IMHO.

You remember when i said that Halloweene had first quoted India getting Neuron tech for domestic unmanned programs.
If you read smartly and think logically, we just got our confirmation.

I told you just a day or 2 back when i said Russia with FGFA said "look this is also what we want you to think about."
So basically its trying to match what French offered to us with rafale deal.

We would offer investment in FGFA and the frames being talked is close to 200 with almost 150+ single seater and some 50+ twin seaters. The final numbers are yet to be frozen as investment negotiations would go on. I can assure you the day we sign Dassault contract within 2 months you would see us signing FGFA and Russians also agreeing other deals as they risk losing many other deals to western nations.
Its now just a game of cards now.. full house soon expected or may be a straight flush...

Earmarked money still there.. will be used for other deals if not used for Russians before 31st March 16

Israel is beating Russia out of Indian market because of Russia's push towards providing big ticket systems and ignoring subsystems.
Russia could focus on : K172, next generation Anti Shipping KH series, Next Gen OLS for Mig29's and Su30MKI, AL222 engine option for adour/Honewel f125 for Jaguar Sepecat, JV for IJT. There are so many avenues for Russians to dominate the Indian Market, but there after sales support, spares and general supply chain management has been a huge issue.

Hopefully russia sees the Indian market for what it is and start pushing to gain bigger foothold in subsystems, and JV avenues.

.
Not going to happen
Has happened. Who do you think is helping India. The level of talk and exchange between India Russia is almost free. How do you think the levicons ended on both Mig-29k, Tejas and T-50?
Point being they in Russia want to do research. And they actively go to India because they have more rapidly increasing budget, and are opening new labs.

meh, no need.
There are bigger fish to fry as of now. Although I would not mind seeing another squadron of Mig29K for the Navy with the K77 M Article 180. and an AESA upgrade for the MKI.

Guys why not get involved with this project? This project is not stopped may be due to finance . we would get a good deal out of it . our AURA is some 5-7 years away but technology demonstrator already there for more improvements.

I don't tink French or UK will give away their futuristic weapon system in many decades to us just like that???

I say go for it . and I just just one article about upgrading our rustom 2 into stealth UAV ... We need more innovative technology support like this project.

.
@Ind4Ever Bro I would like them to deliver on super 30 program first. We should give Russia opportunity based on performance on the present deal status and its implementation. Inspire of aura being some years away, the priority should be super sukhoi program followed by MKI spares and last fee LRU localisation followed by FGFA followed byS400 followed by Kashalot lease.

If all these programs are successfully implemented and see the execution with favourable terms for india, you will see them surely giving newer deal and tie ups.

To me since PAKFA stage 2 is few years away, I would really want GOI to concentrate on super sukhoi program and taking every step to increase MKI availability via localisation of spares and critical LRUs. That being the biggest percentage in our fleet is far important than SKAT program really.
