Russia Offers Su-35 Tech Transfer To Indonesia

Hardly as Indonesia currently spent less than 1 per-cent of her GDP for Defense spending and less than four per-cent of her National budget for defense spending

Why not? they had offered us, look at our section and the articles beforehand and we already talking about their offer
Than grab that offer and produce at least 100 of those

.
Before this news come up, not long before this one, we have already signed a strategic defense partnership with Russia that will allow any transfer technology to happen and also cooperation between both defense industries.

.
This is a good offer from Russia.

Indonesia already has infrastructure in place for Su-30 series. The Su-35 is an enhanced version of the same, having most commonality in training and logistics facilities.

Plus, you will have fighters that have tremendous range and payload capability of fighters in its category. Anywhere between 50-100 of these indigenously produced with ToT from Russia would actually take you to great lengths as a major military force in the region.

We are already jointly training with Malaysian and Vietnamese friends in how to operate to MKI (MKM and MKV) series respectively.

Adding this to your fleet would make fleet operations among regional partners easier from commonality perspective.

.
Our Indonesian friends know what is best for them. If they think that acquiring SU 35 is in their best interest and if they have the technological base to easily absorb this plane, then they should go for it.

.
If Russian offer includes, Source Codes, Flybywire, AESA radar, Avonics (including software coding) and 'development' of the air frame inside Indonesia, then its a great offer.

.
Vietnam would never buy unproven designs !!!

If you think any SU series aircraft (post SU-27) is an "unproven" design, you need to wake up. The SU series is one of the most lethal out there. The US trains with Indian pilots against the SU's as they are a credible threat.

If Indonesia gets this, they can setup their aviation industry at a much advance level than where they are now. Having the state of the art SU-35 as a baseline only means they are starting from today's tech and they can advance features on their own as they like. This is HUGE for the Indonesian defense industry. Saying no to this would be idiotic to say the least!

as far as I know BoQ has not become the speaker of the vietnam government yet.

Most welcome -a stronger Indonesian Air Force will contribute to greater peace and security in South East Asia.
what and how? can you elaborate? will indonesia airforce fly over islands illegally occupied by china?
will indonesia threaten china with bomb raids if the chinese deploy oil rigs anywhere into our eez?

Vietnam would never buy unproven designs !!!
just quote your opinion. you are not vietnam. there are reports our airforce is studying the su-35 for possible buy.

Actually the number that we need is not really large, just 16 planes, but Russia really need to think to give us great TOT offering since if the deal is successful so Sukhoi family ( that also can be PAKFA later) will likely become our fix long term choice for heavy fighters

This fighter will be combined with KFX/IFX fighters that has USA technology (likely Lockheed Martin if KIA become the KFX project partner along with Indonesian side) on it. Meanwhile, Eurofighter Typhoon has very close relationship with our aviation industry (PT Dirgantara) and promise us with great TOT as well. And for your information, PT Dirgantara director has spoken quite boldly in supporting Typhoon acquisition.

Technologically, from what Russia claims, SU 35 is a good fight jet. It will be a major upgrade for Indonesia's AF if they get good and absorble tech transfers from the deal.

Politically, it is good too. Russia is a trustworthy country to Indonesia. Russia, unlike other countries, won't abuse its power over Indonesia with sanctions that can compromise its defenses.

Even with all these positives Indonesia will need to look at the initial cost, operating cost and future technological and strategical value of the plane.

For only 16 planes it does not make any sense to ask for ToT or even local assembly. Plus since you already have 8 Su30 planes then why on earth is Indonesia looking to add a different type of aircraft into its inventory. Doesn't make any sense from logistics, training and maintenance point of view.

However if the Air force is not happy with the current 8 Su30 planes than it is a different matter. Maybe not happy with the associated maintenance or sortie rates ??

1. Russia has shown its willingness to give TOT formally as the report said, and the context that is playing now is the fact that we are currently developing our own fighter program along with South Korea. So we need to get any technical benefit from any current purchase of fighter plane that we want to buy. For your information, Typhoon has already offered us TOT in huge way even though they also know that we only need 16 planes.

2. Our future plan is to have huge numbers of fighters, it will likely be only two type and one of them should be KFX/IFX, the rest will be heavy fighter that can attack deep target. Based on recent plan, we will acquire 80 units of IFX. So Russia is likely to think in long term context in term of offering us TOT in this deal.

3 Just like what has been said by Spain foreign minister recently on behalf of Typhoon consortium, they are also interested to offer their avionics for our IFX fighter program ( our KFX version ). So, every body is interested to deepen their cooperation with us as early as it can. Not only talking about current deal, but also future one.

4. Geopolitics consideration and current Russia economic situation

Compatibility

We have already had 16 Sukhoi 27/ 30 which is actually a base plane from where Su 35 get developed. We are happy with Sukhoi family thats why we want to add the number.

. .
Not surprised, Indonesia can't develop their own military weapons of course they need to get it from someone else.

.
@Indos If you are getting it with TOT than you should go for 5 squadrons of SU 35
