Russia, Iran offer to lay Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline

Islamabad: (Tuesday, March 13, 2012) lending a helping hand to energy as well as cash starved Pakistan, Iran and Russia have expressed interest in laying the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline.

In order to determine feasibility of the offer, Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has formed a Federal Cabinet body.

The ECC could only decide on the formation of federal cabinet body when it was briefed about the proposal in a meeting held having Federal Minister for Finance Dr. Hafeez Sheikh in the chair.

The committee that is to decide on deliberating on Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline is comprised of Federal Minister Syed Naveed Qamar, Dr. Asim Hussain, Federal Secretary for Economic Affairs and Finance and Governor State Bank of Pakistan.
According to news, the body has been directed to submit its report within 2 to 3 days.

It was also shared in the meeting that Iran has offered a sum of 250 million dollars for initial financing of the project.

In its proceeding, the ECC also approved a sum of 6.10 billion for Pakistan Railways to repair and restore the broken down locomotives.

The meeting also formed a committee to take stock of exporting 1.280 million tones wheat to Iran.

Excellent news will bring Russia Iran Pakistan and China. Something which I have been saying for some time these countries interests converge so..

Yes it will be but if and only if it complete. UNCLE SAM will do everything to avoid that. They give India nuclear deal to stay away from this pipe. And now I heard Saudi is also warmming up to block this thing. Lets see if Pak can say NO to Saudi. If this pipeline come in reality it will be huge boost to Asian economies. But right now all we can say is lets see

I don't think India-Pak senario is ever going to change in Political field. But economies might co operate for mutual growth. That's good enough for common people

Let's hope so. But technically it's not achievable in that short span. Plus you have to consider Iran's financial resources. How much Iran can invest when war clouds are on her head. Russian economy is just coming out of bad days. Pak isn't in a position to invest in this kinda large scale projects. World bank is definitely NOT going to finance it. Only hope is China investing. But considering Chinese trade with USA china is not likely to engage USA on its own for this reason here when it has already locked horns in SCS. May be we can see some negotiations between USA and Russia on this issue like missile shield. You never know

What make you think that we beg to us for nuclear deal. It was a offer made by USA to back down from project and that wasn't the only thing Iran failed to assure India safety of pipeline through Pak territory. So India weighted both things and go for nuclear deal. And last time I remembered it was the Political leadership of Pak demanding ( I'm not saying begging) USA the equal nuclear deal with Pak. We know what happen after that.
And with due respect , India is not counting on this pipeline to feed our people though it will be cheap. It's utter need of Pakistan and not of India
