The head of the UK’s armed forces has said Russia has already “strategically lost” the war in Ukraine and is now a “more diminished power”.

Admiral Sir Tony Radakin said Russia was suffering heavy losses, running out of troops and advanced missiles and would never be able to take over all of Ukraine.

“This is a dreadful mistake by Russia. Russia will never take control of Ukraine,” Tony Radakin told PA Media in an interview published on Friday.

The country’s highest-ranking military officer said the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, had lost 25% of Russia’s land power for only “tiny” gains and it would emerge a “more diminished power” while strengthening Nato.

“Russia has strategically lost already. Nato is stronger, Finland and Sweden are looking to join,” he said.

Radakin said that while Putin may achieve “tactical successes” in the weeks to come, it had come at the expense of a quarter of his country’s army power for “tiny” gains and was running out of troops and hi-tech missiles.

“The Russian machine is grinding away, and it’s gaining a couple of – two, three, five – kilometres every day,” the admiral said.

“And Russia has vulnerabilities because it’s running out of people, it’s running out of hi-tech missiles.

“President Putin has used about 25% of his army’s power to gain a tiny amount of territory and 50,000 people either dead or injured. Russia is failing.”

Radakin’s claims echo British intelligence reports, the latest of which said some Russian battalion tactical groups (BTGs) – typically established at about 600 to 800 personnel – have only been able to muster as few as 30 soldiers.

Although Russia is achieving tactical success in the Donbas, these recent successes have come at “significant resource cost” and by concentrating force and fires on a single part of the overall campaign.

“Measured against Russia’s original plan, none of the strategic objectives have been achieved. In order for Russia to achieve any form of success will require continued huge investment of manpower and equipment, and is likely to take considerable further time,” a report read.

Wow. Can't believe Britain won against Russia for the second time. First time was Crimean war back in the 1800s.

. . . . . . . . .
Lol. that is the figure from afghan war.
No. I thought you meant the Ukraine war.

The Afghan war cost $2.3 trillion at present. After interest it will cost over $6 trillion when paid in 2050.

The war is just beginning and by that I mean the economic war. The full consequences will hit the West in a few months.
That's probably the maximum hit the West is taken at the moment. The only product in demand from Russia is oil and gas, and as the west is decoupling from Russia, it will hurt Russia more in long term, as long as new pipeline is build from ME and US over Atlantic.

In fact, fuel price can be lowered immediately if US/Canada open up new tapping on their strategic reserve, which they haven't because US oil company is riding the high on the high oil price. We are paying $5 per gallon is not because of Russia, it's more like Shell and BP greed. Why would they lobby the government to open up more tap when they can sell oil for $120 a barrel?

Russia is done. By attacking Ukraine, it basically pull other country in the region more Western Centric, to a point where Sweden and Finland both dropped their neutral stance and approach the west for protection. And in case you don't know anything about international politics, this takes a lot to pull a neutral country to one side. One way or another Finnish border is going to be hostile to Russia from now on with or without Finland joining NATO, and I don't see Ukraine is going to be wholly engulfed by the Russian, which mean whatever left in Ukraine will be more hostile to Russia and more western leaning than before. It's like adding another Israel in the area. Those things, no matter how you put it, is a strategic lost for Russia.

A full blown recession is on its way. There are economic experts who claim that the world economy is set to suffer very badly as a whole. Basically an economic collapse.

You're dumb.

Let's talk again in three months. I'm paying 2X more for gas already and 30% more for food as I predicted three months ago. You said Russia would collapse and the West would not be touched. Well, Russia is still standing and withstanding the sanctions and it's the West that is suffering skyrocketing inflation. Actually, Russia has fared better than I expected while what is happening to the West is EXACTLY as I predicted.
