Russia floats out 2nd frigate for Indian Navy

A Russian shipyard took out of dry dock on Wednesday the second of three frigates being built for India’s Navy, a Yantar spokesman said.
The ceremony for the Tarkash frigate in Russia’s Baltic exclave of Kaliningrad was attended by senior Russian and Indian military and civilian officials.
The first of three Project 11356 frigates, named the Teg, was floated out last November. The third frigate, Trikand is due to be delivered in 2011-12.
The warships will become modified Krivak III class (also known as Talwar class) guided missile frigates for the Indian Navy under a $1.6 billion contract signed in July 2006.
The new frigates will be armed with eight BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles.
They will be also equipped with a 100-mm gun, a Shtil surface-to-air missile system, two Kashtan air-defense gun/missile systems, two twin 533-mm torpedo launchers, and an antisubmarine warfare (ASW) helicopter.

Wow... nice posts..good to see the ship in our navy

.
New Krivak-4 ships will be much more advanced than previous Talwar class ships. VLS Brahmos missile, VLS Shtil missile, 100 mm gun and wide range of new sensors and weapons. I remember Indian Navy was in talk about ordering 3 more of this class of ships. :smokin:

hi kinetic why IN order only 3 when they know and needed around 6 FFG. It seem that IN always order in small batch same in the case of Kolkata class DDG and Shivalik Class FFG. You can see same case in Poject-28 we need around 12 but navy only place order of 4 ship.

Thats te problem with them. Shipyards also criticized such effort by the navy. Small orders drastically increases cost per ship. They should order large number but in different blocks.

^^whatever...even then navy is the best arm of armed forces...almost a perfect example...however i would be on cloud 9 if they start ordering the SSKs..they are long delayed and any more delay may result in carrier group with no Sub..

i am not questioning navy's indigenous efforts!!! but if the navy orders large number at a time than it helps shipyards to reduce production costs. Like 12 P-28 they could have been ordered total 9 P-17 in three blocks.

Guys, sometimes I think its necessary for all top guns of military to go for MBA classes, may be cost to service bug will bite them and make them true management guys....:)...

I have read some where tha the corvettes Navy ordered from GRSE are still sitting post completetion but that was sometime ago...

may be the navy underestimates the ship yards thinking they will not be capable of tech advancement occuring in each block, or may be they are waiting for the design or the configuation of what will be the tech that the later blocks will have...
