Russia elected as IMO Council member having secured more votes than USA and UK
Russia has been elected as IMO Council member, a source in London told IAA PortNews.
According to the source, the Russian Federation was ahead of the USA and the UK having secured 147 votes out of 160 nations which voted at the IMO Assembly session.
IMO, the International Maritime Organization headquartered in London, is the United Nations specialized agency with responsibility for the safety and security of shipping and the prevention of marine pollution by ships. IMO Council numbers 40 Member States.
