A repeated TV advertisement now a days advises people to open a bank account with Rs. 5/- for their children to create savings habit in their childhood. Is our government since about 15 years really interested in real domestic savings which are a backbone of a countrys economy, is not the topic here. The people would not have forgotten a similar sort of repeated advertisement on Radio Pakistan Karachi commercial service in 60s used repeatedly advising people to open account with Rs. 5 which advertisement ended with a toddler saying
Bank, Mellaa bee too Hay. During the almost the same years the banks mobile vans were also introduced which visited as per schedule on fixed days to schools collecting deposits in accounts in shape of Athanees, Chowanees and Rupees. The Bank which repeatedly appealed us to open accounts with it with Rs. 5/- today tries hard to push all of us away with its legs/shoes from its doors because this bank on all our those rupees Fives have today become a big giant. And it is a well established fact of our society that if when becomes rich and richer immediately he distances himself from his other family members which now are poor.
What is the guarantee our todays children who will nurture this Bank today with their school pocket money of Rs. 5/- would not be dashed away from its doors in next 10 or 20 years when these youth become young.
But the most important is and I look forward to My Lordship Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Iftikhar Mohammad Choundharys return when he may take suo moto note and finds out where are those school funds of 60s which children of those days deposited with different mobile banks.
