I am hearing a rumor that probably Lt. General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed has been made acting Army Chief.

Can anyone confirm that? His Wikipedia page has been updated accordingly

Present Army Chief Aziz Ahmed is supposed to return from USA tomorrow. What is the point of making such appointment at the moment?

There is also a rumor that BDG is going to create a new post called "Chief of Defense Staffs" as the Indians did last year. This 'non-command' new post is going to replace the PSO of Armed Forces Division. That will also effectively end the parallel organization AFD and return to Ministry of Defense as the sole defense department.
Gen. Aziz is going to be promoted to this new post to become the first CDS in BD according to the rumor. Besides, firing him will only vindicate the AJ report which is not anyway desired by BDG.

Replacement of AFD with a Joint Chiefs office is much needed (mainly to kick BAF's @$$ and stop wasteful spending through streamlined procurement of equipment) and long overdue.
I can almost guarantee that Gen Aziz will not be extended or given another govt post. Ultimately he will permanently settle in a "safe" country.
