Rulers not serious in resolving energy crisis, alleges Dar

ISLAMABAD: Former Finance Minister and leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Ishaq Dar on Saturday alleged that the current rulers are non-serious to steer the country out of looming energy crisis.

Addressing a news conference here at Punjab House, he expressed disappointment over the new budget saying that no concrete steps have been taken to resolve the loadshedding problem.

Senator Dar said country is facing enormous problems and poverty and unemployment are the most serious.

He said more than 49 per cent Pakistanis are living below the poverty line. Describing the federal budget 2012-13 as disappointing, he said it lacks remedial measures to cope with looming energy crisis besides suggesting to recover the written off loans amounting Rs300 billion to overcome the power crisis. He grilled the government and its economic team for tall claims and unrealistic budgetary figures.

The PML-N leader said that there are both short and long-term strategies to cope with the challenge. Giving his suggestion to overcome energy crisis, he said as a short-term solution the written off loans on political grounds amounting Rs300 billion should immediately be recovered and the circular debts should be paid so as to get rid of the load shedding. While the existing power units could also be upgraded which can generate extra 1200 megawatt electricity, he maintained.

For long-term strategy, he said that his party’s Punjab government has given many fruitful suggestions in the Council of Common Interest (CCI), adding that 4908 MW more electricity can be produced by construction of Nandipur power plant, which has been stalled for the last two and half years. He also lamented that the proposed programme of 2007-12 under which 11708 MW electricity was supposed to be produced but it was still in the papers.

He also grilled the government for creation of proposed 100,000 more jobs, saying that the government should come up with sensible measures to overcome unemployment.

He said that the poor condition of national exchequer does not allow the government to create jobs in such large numbers.

What I want to know is, how did this energy crisis get so bad? Is it all because of corruption, mismanagement, & overall laziness? Isn't there supposed to be a planning department or something in the government that monitors & forecasts the growth of the population along with their & other businesses energy needs? I remember reading that in the past, Pakistan had an excess amount of energy & the government was even planning to export electricity.

.
Rulers were only serious in making money from the misery of the nation. That scam was called Rental Power Project. They stole billions of rupees of public money but did not add a single MW of power.

I m surprised at the people and educated ones who still side with these looters.

There is half your problem
the written off loans on political grounds amounting Rs300 billion
favors kick backs and outright theft over years combined with mismanagment and under charging.
Its a matter of priorities,
#1 steal every thing not nailed down for yourself,
#2 give every thing you cant steal to friends and people you owe favors to
#3 promise not to raise charges while promising to spend a fortune on upgrading the system
#4 Blame the opposition/India/USA/Israel/Aliens for the fact that the system now shuts down half the time
#5 Arrange british passport incase some one audits the books.
#6 Retire to a mansion in the south of France

All the political parties who are in power are responsible for energy crises. PPP, PML-N, PML-!, ANP, JUI, MQM (all are Haram Eaters) are in power these corrupt parties are just playing with the people & they are fooling them over & over again. PML-N are liars & they are performing a drama to fool the people of Pakistan & this drama is led by the corrupt Shairf family (Haram eaters).

There is a saying "ALLAH kai kam main dair hai undhar nahi" I pray that time is coming now.

China today is ready to solve most of the problems of Pakistan including energy but unfortunately we are ruled by spineless thugs politicians who are only working for themselves.

So what is Pmln going to do to pressurize govt... topi drama? what they did in Parliament and Minar e Pakistan camp?

Yeah I read that in the article of course. Judging by their previous records however, I don't think they are going to begin recovering the Rs300 billion any time soon, or at least this government won't.

I agree, it all comes down to corruption, greed, & mismanagement. I hope they ban dual nationals from being in the government like all the other sane countries have. At least then, those who take part in corruption would find it a lot harder to just run away. Another thing that has to be taken seriously is the enforcement of law. Some people are just pathetic & they lack all etiquettes, they will find it easier to break the law when it's isn't effectively & efficiently enforced. The importance of law enforcement is self-explanatory, but like all other problems, the current government isn't likely to attempt to enforce the law seeing as how they benefit from corruption themselves.
