HMS Queen Elizabeth is at the centre of the group which is the start of joint carrier operations between the navy and its NATO allies.

Nine ships, 15 fighter jets, 11 helicopters and 3,000 personnel from the UK, US and the Netherlands are now carrying out exercises in the North Sea.

The strike group is the largest and most powerful European-led maritime force in almost 20 years.

The Carrier Strike Group offers Britain choice and flexibility on the global stage; it reassures our friends and allies and presents a powerful deterrent to would-be adversaries.

The group includes NATO’s most sophisticated destroyers — the Royal Navy’s Type 45s HMS Diamond and HMS Defender and US Navy Arleigh Burke-class USS The Sullivans as well as frigates HMS Northumberland and HMS Kent from the UK and the Dutch Navy’s HNLMS Evertsen.

They will not only protect the Queen Elizabeth-class carriers from enemy ships, submarines, aircraft and missiles, but are also capable of conducting a range of supporting missions, from maritime security to disaster relief.

“Protected by a ring of advanced destroyers, frigates, helicopters and submarines, and equipped with fifth generation fighters, HMS Queen Elizabeth is able to strike from the sea at a time and place of our choosing; and with our NATO allies at our side, we will be ready to fight and win in the most demanding circumstances.”

— Commodore Steve Moorhouse, Commander UK Carrier Strike Group

Meanwhile, two Royal Fleet Auxiliary ships, RFA Tideforce and RFA Fort Victoria, will supply fuel, food, spares and ammunition, to enabled sustained operations from the sea without host nation support.

This is the first time that HMS Defender has been involved in the UK-led Carrier Strike Group. Having just successfully completed a period of Basic Operational Sea Training over the summer, the men and women that make up Defender’s crew are motivated and ready to take part in the next stage of training in preparation for deploying with the Carrier Strike Group next year.

HMS Queen Elizabeth and her Strike Group are currently exercising alongside allied nations in the North Sea, as part of NATO’s largest annual exercise, Joint Warrior.

Damn , good to see the Royal Navy back in the game of carrier operations. For the first time in the last century we were without an aircraft carrier for a few years. Good it didn't last too long.
I believe one of the carriers was supposed to be based in our new expanded naval military base in Bahrain?
Is it the QE or HMS prince of wales?

. . .
Yep, this will be some really serious firepower that will even be a tough nut to crack for the strongest of powers like Russia and China.

The full CSG will be comprised of:

1. QE Class Carrier with up to 36 F-35Bs.
2. 2 Type-45 Destroyers
3. 2 Type-23 Frigates
4. 1 Astute SSN
5. 1 Supply Ship.

There is even the possibility that the carriers may be reconfigured for EMALs when they get a mid-life upgrade and so we could even see Tempest and fully fledged AWACs flying off these ships in the 2040s.

I saw the same advert in the 70s in the British newspapers and the Argentinians proved it was just an advert as it was only due to good luck that more British ships weren't sunk by the Argies:-

They will not only protect the carriers from enemy ships, submarines, aircraft and missiles, but are also capable of conducting a range of supporting missions, from maritime security to disaster relief.

British Type 45 destroyer is the outcome of lessons drawn from the costly Falklands War as well as operations in the Middle East. It is equipped with a sophisticated and well-positioned AESA radar system, fused with other types of sensor systems, to illuminate a wide range of threats from a distance and produce Fire Solution for many in one go, and scores of Aster series AAW munitions in the present. Type 45 hull design is also a leap from cramped hull designs of earlier generation destroyers which hindered munition deployment and storage among others.

The British Carrier Battle Group being put together is incredibly advanced and sophisticated with 5th generation combat aircraft in the mix. With exception of USA, other countries are over a decade behind in this matter as a whole.

Glad to see we are back in the game. I guess we will soon deploy one of our carriers to its home port in the middle East where I learn it will be based. In our new expanded naval base in Bahrain if I'm not wrong. :chilli::cheers:

Man, tempest will be a game changer. I really hope our government really goes ahead with it until serial production. Since our defence giants are definitely capable of producing the most advanced fighter jets the world has to offer (maybe barring the US ). CANT WAIT TO SEE THAT BABY IN THE AIR. 🥰

. .
The new Aircraft carriers and new Type 45s have had some initial teething issues, but they are full steam ahead now and combined with the new Astute class submarines, and F35s we have 2 world class strike groups now. Other than the Ford class of carriers groups, nothing else comes close to the military capability these groups have now. Nothing.

Looks like we are going to build the fleet auxillary ships to support these groups in the UK now, so that is good news.

Next stop Tempest !!!!
