A lot of European countries don't want to go along with the US dictum of hating Russia. They see massive business oppertunities, and do not believe the US story of the great Russian threat. There is a fault line in the Western alliance between the US (and poodle UK) and the Europeans.

Europeans have no illusions about Russia. they can look at Ukraine for themselves. China is a different story

French are opportunists they have always sold weapons to both sides on high price. Unfortunately they have elected a President this time who does not know how politics works.

If these three things are done today then France would be selling every damn weapon and technology they can to become the leader.
1) Apologize to Muslims and Russia on all the mistakes France made.
2) Offer Argentina Rafales and French upgrades for JF-17, Offer the Gowind Class Ships along with Submarines and Helicopters.
3) Join TFX program and offer Turkey joint development of the French and German 6th Generation program.

These would end NATO, US and UK dominance for ever.

Yes but like a Greek military site and magazine pointed out,the Russians "forgot" why their deal was cancelled. It was because that year they took Crimea.

For me Crimea is Russian and they did nothing wrong,but for the Western world and most of Europe and the Americans,that was an "invasion".

It doesn't take away that this trend of cancelling deals years later is a self-inflicted wound France enabled and now French are on the receiving end.

Doubt it, they know China will copy them and make their own and export it to other countries that are customers of France.

It's a big possibility because on one hand the Americans have been pressing the government for the MMSC and on the other hand,the Dutch have a very good deal for us.It's not a lot of money compared to the Australian submarines deal,but even 4-5 billion euros is something...

If you look closely at the Australian sub deal and naval group's shenanigans you'll understand why people are backing away.
