What is the difference with Aselsan LGB ?
I think all the acronyms gets a little bit confusing, but here's how it is;
LGB =
Laser Guided Bomb, a generic term for munitions that's equipped with a laser-seeking "eye" and fins that makes it able to adjust its flight path as it gets closer and closer to the designated and "lased" target. It constantly tries to home onto the target until impact.
LGK =
Laser Guidance Kit, basically a kit of parts used to turn a "dumb", such as the Mk-82/83/84 family, bomb into a LGB.
Just like a PGK with the addition of an laser-seeking "eye".
PGK =
Precision-Guidance Kit, basically a kit of parts used to turn a "dumb" bomb, such as the Mk-82/83/84 family, into a bomb that's slightly "smarter" but yet not as smart as a LGB. This kind of munition usually utilizes GPS together with INS to calculate where it is, where it's heading and where the target's area is at (not the target itself, as it isn't able to "see" the target as a LGB is). It tries to maintain an optimized path towards where it was initially intended to be dropped with the help of fins, thus corrects small errors caused by factors such as heavy winds - this also helps improving its stand-off capability as the optimization of its flight path increases the distance it can glide. But unlike a LGB, it doesn't know anything about the target itself, but is still useful when the target consist of multiple enemy units that's gathered close by each other, e.g. a SAM site, in other words a target
area rather than a single target.
