Saudi Arabia has recorded the highest rate of road accident fatalities at the Arab and world levels, according to a report issued by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Riyadh: Saudi Arabia has recorded the highest rate of road accident fatalities at the Arab and world levels, according to a report issued by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

According to the report, 49 per 100,000 people are killed in road accidents in Saudi Arabia every year, which is the highest traffic accident fatality rate in the world.

The fatality rate is 41 in Egypt, 48 in Eritrea, 39 in Afghanistan and 34.5 in Tunisia.

The figure is significantly lower in Switzerland at 4.9, 4.9 in Germany, 6 in France, 7.5 and 9.6 in Italy.

The report gave Saudi Arabia 5 points out of 10 in the effectiveness of abiding by speed limits, and 2 out of 10 for the effectiveness of enforcing the use of protective helmets by cyclists and motorcyclists, and 5 out of 10 for the enforcement of safety belts by automobile drivers, and 2 out of 10 in enforcing the laws regarding child passengers.

The report pointed out that there are 7,998,600 registered vehicles in Saudi Arabia.

Among the traffic accident deaths last year, 86 per cent were men and 14 per cent were women, although women are not allowed to drive.

Saudi Arabia has taken steps to cut it down, but most successful is 'Saher' (saher.gov.sa),
These are set of cameras that will fine you HEAVILY for over speeding or breaking signals.

The citizens and residents are forced into their limits, and 120 KM/H means 120 KM/H!
You cross to 121, BAM! You are fined for 300 SR, if not paid then to 500 SR within two weeks.

No wonder the citizens have crashed the cameras and the drivers of mobile vans were brutally beaten!
Although it is expensive, it has cut the rates to a huge margin.

lmao that's the dumbest thing I've heard
they spend billions on tall buildings that have to be either renovated in 30 years or destroyed but not on things like Sewer systems or public transport!!! Nothing these guys do ever makes sense to me.

As no one bothers to walk, and pedestrians are out of fashion, they were reduced to enlarge te roads. As for public transport, they do exist, but the quality of the broken, smelly busses which give you headache and dizzyness is the reason it isint used. Moreover the drivers are all saudis, so they drive like a ambulance and have caused multiple accidents per 'van' and you can see the vans in a terrible outer and inner condition.

You can just see a few on youtube. Have a look in reality. Boy, it totaly rocks!
