RIM-66 missiles in the Turkish Navy

I believe the Turkish navy has RIM-66E SM-1MR Block VIA.

Wikipedia states

In Service 1983. Version still in service with export customers.
Monopulse seeker developed for SM-2
Introduced MK 45 MOD 4 proximity fuze (also known as TDD - Target Detection Device)
MK 115 warhead of SM-2
MK 45 MOD 6 and MK 45 MOD 7 proximity fuzes in Block VIA (RIM-66E-5) and Block VIB (RIM-66E-6) respectively

The USN does not officially use it anymore.


The variant the Turkish navy has some parts common with the SM-2 like the MK-115 warhead and MK-45 Proximity Fuze

The MK-45 MOD 4 proximity fuze and the MK-115 warhead is very effective to counter low RCS threats like for example anti-ship missiles, and UAV.

The disadvantage however is the guidance of a SM-1 missle, which requires full radar illimunation of the target from the launched ship; Multiple target engagement is limited by this type guidance.

I would also like to add that SM-2 will be likely picked for the AAW TF-2000 'frigates'. As of a matter of fact this article says it has been.

The SSM was unable to progress the program to the next stage until the Turkish Naval Forces completed an assessment of which version of Raytheon's Standard Missile would be most suitable for the new frigate. This assessment has now been concluded, with the navy opting to continue with the SM-2.

i meant the TF-class, but currently, the Cumhuriyet Donanması wants to keep it's current SM-1ER Blocks and ESSMs for a loooong time till all G class frigates will be retired, whom will serve even longer than our MEKOs...and that date will be about 2022, upon my predict

What is cumhuriyet donanması? I only know one navy and that's Turkish Navy.

well, inside the Navy; people don't usually use the term Turkish Navy or Turkish Naval Forces. Not because that It's about our race. I don't know it too, but I learned it that way. If you watch the interviews with naval officers, they usually say either 'our Navy' or 'Cumhuriyet Donanması'. It's way cooler and It's term which our sailors use since the 1923s TN.

It's a bold statement, MEKOs have already reached their mid-life but they are still the youngest frigates of the Turkish Navy. Normally we would be phasing these out by 2020ies but with the uncertainties of TF2000 project it's hard to say.

BTW it's "which" not "whom" just because we call them "she" or doesn't make them any human

"Navy of the Republic" saying is just a tradition. There were times which I referred Turkey as "the republic" seeing that it's no longer a republic but more of a totalitarian police state I don't use that term anymore.

Turkey producing Frigates is good for Pakistan because if our economy gets better we can order Frigates or Corvettes from Turkey
