Retired officers can’t come on talk shows without ISPR ‘clearance’

The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority has requested television channels to seek “prior clearance from ISPR” before inviting retired military officers as defence analysts in news and current affairs programmes.

In a notification issued on April 4, Pemra stated “it has been seriously observed by concerned quarters” that retired military officers “are usually not fully conversant/abreast with the latest Defence and Security developments due to their service background and post retirement time.”

The move appears to be an attempt by Pemra to bar retired military officials from engaging in political debates on TV shows.

The electronic media regulator directed the channels to identify retired military officials as just an “analyst” and not as a defence analyst if they are invited on talk shows for discussion other than security matters.

“The discussion mostly switches from security matters to politics which inadvertently embroils military officers into political debate which is felt undesirable,” the notification read.

“Strict compliance is desired by all the News and Current Affairs TV Channel licensees,” it added.

. . . .
Good move but I think veterans of pakistans military are already disciplined enough that they dont cross the red lines on media.

.
But for some reasons I have noticed that the most articulate analysts on most topics in pakistani talk shows usually tend to be retired military officials.

They should be allowed to present themselves as civilians rather than "retired army officer". It's good to have diverse opinions as long as they don't squeal confidential stuff.

IS IT BECAUSE OF SOME MENTAL DISEASE?? OR JUST BECAUSE THEY BECOME USELESS AFTER RETIREMENT?

WHY IS THEN GENERAL RAHEEL ON A JOB IN SAUDIA ...

OR THIS LAW ONLY FOR A SOLDIER?
some generals conscious wake up after retirement...

Good. No disrespect, but sometimes what the retired personnel propose or dictate is outdated, does not fit the context, is over the top, or does not do justification to the actual truth of the situation.
Excellent decision.. that Durani toocha was doing an idiotic job. Mostly, they reveal details which they should not...some of them are really loose mouth and nuts.
What did he said?

This is just like ban on freedom of speech. Let leave on public to decide whom to listen or not. You have remote control on your hands.
We have habit of banning, as we are emotional state, First we banned youtube here, then facebook and Now......

Haroon Raheed ?

Is he the one being targeted ?

He was the mentor of IK and once IK discarded him, he has become very critical of the government of the day.
