HYDERABAD: Police stepped up vigil in Chaderghat and surrounding areas following the murder of a 64-year-old retired aeronautical engineer by his neighbour, belonging to another community, at Azampura on Sunday night.
The victim was identified as Nooruddin, a retired aeronautical engineer from Azampura. He was stabbed to death by his neighbour, Rajesh, 31, an electrician, near Azampur weighbridge on Sunday night. After the murder, Rajesh surrendered before the Chaderghat police. During interrogation, Rajesh confessed that he had a personal rivalry with Nooruddin after the latter had an argument with him for putting up a loud speaker at a place of worship during a recent festival.
The victim's family members told police that on Sunday evening Nooruddin confronted Rajesh when he was assaulting his mother at the house. "After the confrontation, Nooruddin went to a local mosque. As he was returning home, Rajesh stabbed him to death," a family member of the victim told police.
"We are getting several versions pertaining to what could be the motive behind the murder. Chaderghat police are questioning the accused and the family members of the victim to get more information," DCP, East Zone, A Ravindar said. After the incident, tension prevailed at Azampura as relatives of Nooruddin and the locals gathered in large numbers and went to Chaderghat police station.
