'Pradeep press down Sinha's throat with his feet and laughs'

Retired Army Major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan was shot dead by police at the Shamlapur checkpost in Baharchhara Union on the Cox's Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive on Monday (August 31st). On the night of July 31, an eyewitness from Teknaf's Marich Bunia witnessed everything from near the scene. He described the tragic events that took place.
On condition of anonymity, the eyewitness said that Major Sinha Mohammad Rashed, a retired army officer, was stopped at the APBN check post on Marine Drive Road in Teknaf around 9pm on July 31. At that time, a constable was on duty at the check post wearing APBN uniform. He was there to stop the car. Inspector in-charge of Baharchhara camp Liakat Ali and SI Nandalal Rakshita were already present near the check post in white clothes.
The APBN member signaled to stop Major Sinha's silver private car at the checkpoint. The car went a little further and stopped. Go to that member of APBN. Asked for his identity, Sinha introduced himself as a former army major. At that moment, he told Major Sinha to leave. Suddenly Inspector Liaquat ran and wanted to know the identity of the person in the driver's seat. In English, Major Sinha introduced himself as a former army officer. After that, Sinha's video recording partner Sifat was the first to get out of the private car. He was immediately slapped and thrown to the ground. Which is done by the members of APBN at the check post. Seeing this, Sinha opened the door and came out of the driver's seat.
At that moment, Inspector Liaquat fired two shots from a distance at Sinha asking him to raise his hand. Sinha's licensed pistol was in the car at the time. Inspector Liaquat then approached and fired two more shots. Major Sinha immediately fell on the highway.
The eyewitness repeatedly asked him not to reveal his identity as he might be harassed by the police if his identity was revealed. He said Inspector Liaquat called OC for the first time after Sinha was shot. Shortly afterwards, OC Pradeep came to the spot in a police vehicle. He was wearing white then. When he came to the spot, OC Pradeep asked Sifat to handcuff him and pour water through his nose. Sifat started shouting loudly. As he did not have a handcuff, Pradeep started abusing the policemen who were with him. Said, 'Dam with rope. Or do you not have that? ' At that time, an APBN member ran and started looking for the rope. By the time the sound of gunfire, more people in the area began to gather near the checkpoint.
OC Pradeep saw this eyewitness standing. However, he (OC) did not say anything as more locals approached the check post.
The eyewitness further said that after being shot in the body, Major Sinha fell to the ground and was in a coma. Then OC Pradeep went to Sinha to say something to Liaquat. First he laid his feet on his chest and held his neck with his feet. Sinha was still moving. After some time, his movement stopped. At that moment, OC Pradeep looked at Major Sinha and laughed.
Eyewitnesses said that a police SI removed Major Sihna from the spot in a vehicle for some time.
Later, two cases were filed by the police in this incident. A case was registered at Teknaf police station. The case alleges obstruction of government work and shootings. Sifat was made the accused in that case. Shipra Debnath was made an accused in the drug case filed with Ramu police station under the Narcotics Control Act.
Sinha's elder sister Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous filed a murder case in the Cox's Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court on August 5. Nine policemen, including sacked Teknaf Police Station OC Pradeep Kumar Das, were charged in the case. So far, RAB has arrested 13 people, including seven policemen including OC Pradeep, three members of the Armed Police Battalion (APBN) and three witnesses in the case filed by Teknaf police.
Three members of the arrested APBN, dismissed Inspector of Police Liaquat Ali and SI Nandadulal have already given confessional statements under Section 164 in the Sinha murder case.
