Response to strike from Pakistan will be massive: IAF chief
Rajat Pandit, TNN | Jul 26, 2011, 02.25PM IST
NEW DELHI: Indian Air Force (IAF) chief P V Naik on Tuesday said Pakistan's new tactical nuclear missile or expanding arsenal is of no worry to India.

"As per our doctrine, response to a first strike will be massive," Naik threatened. The IAF chief's statement came following the news report that Pakistan planned to add 24 nuclear-capable, short-range missiles capable of hitting all major Indian cities to its arsenal this year.

This will be the highest number of missiles Pakistan has ever produced in a year if the government achieves the target, The Express Tribune newspaper quoted its sources as saying.

The air-to-air and surface-to-air missiles will be able to hit targets at a distance between 700 km and 1,000 km, thus putting nearly all major Indian cities within their range, the report claimed.

The plan is in line with Pakistan's official policy of having what is rhetorically called "maintaining a minimum deterrence", especially against India, the daily quoted sources as saying.

The air chief is didn't need to say anything. Pakistan making more nukes is good for India.

Nothing new these kind of statements are always common between our countries.

pagel ho gaya hai ye :) is ko koi samjhai keh massive strike ka answer bhee masive hota haii :)

n u get nothing from his statement. you have to recover first from the massive strike.

Kind you kindly quote the Pak side chief of any arm giving such kind of statements, without off course being provoked.

Thanks in advance.

its the media who puts words in the mouth of acm pv naik.......like the way it quoted out of context gen kapoor's statement about two front war......it does not matter pakistan or china or mongolia....any nuclear first strike will be answered with a massive second strike.....as for as pak army's statements....the statement of kayani who said...pak army is india-centric is enough to give us the intentions......

Haha- Unlike India- After procuring any weapon- Pakistan does not have to say any thing regarding any offense-- the usual indian rhetoric will itself come :D-

So kinda puts to rest the debate about whether a tactical nuclear strike by Pakistan will trigger a full blown Nuclear war with city busters or not..

May be he is not talking in the context of a nulcear first strike from the Pak side, rather a first strike meaning the one who initiates the war, as PAF would be trying for a surprise strike before IAF does. Like the one in 65 or like how the Israelis did with the Arabs, taking them by surprise to get a few extra hours.

And even if he is taking this in the context of a nuclear strike, he has not mentioned that the Indian response would be massive in conventional manner or nuclear manner.

So, lot of ambiguity in this statement, but we all know that Pak is not gonna do any first strike on any Indian cities.
