Israel has reportedly attacked Damascus International Airport with missiles Saturday night, Syrian state media said. AP reports that explosions were heard across Damascus.
The state news agency SANA posted pictures and a video of the alleged attack, adding that The Syrian Arab Army’s air defenses managed to shoot down a number of the enemy missiles.
Head of the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights Rami Abdurrahman said the attack targeted an arms depot near the airport where new weapons recently arrived for the Iranians or Lebanon's Hezbollah group. The monitoring group had no immediate word on casualties, saying the strike did cause material damage.
According to a report by Eva J. Koulouriotis on Twitter, the target was a civilian aircraft belonging to the Iranian airliner Saha, which landed at Damascus International Airport at 8 pm local time. If this report is correct, then the aircraft in question was a Boeing 747.
Another report by Babak Taghvaee, the Syrian Air Defense Force fired SA-2 missiles at the Israeli aircraft. No damage was reported.
