Report declares '2013' year of achievements for Pakistan-China relations

ISLAMABAD, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Pakistan-China Institute on Friday released its Annual Report 2013 about the efforts to promote relations between the two nations, declaring it is the year of achievements and progress.

The launching ceremony of the report was organized by Pakistan- China Institute (PCI) in capital Islamabad and was attended by the Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Sun Weidong, chairman PCI Senator Mushahid Hussain along with the members of parliament, former diplomats, a number of media persons and members of different think tanks.

Chairman Hussain highlighted the various activities of PCI in 2013 including the two international events that were organized in Beijing in August 2013, in cooperation with think tanks of China and Afghanistan.

He also referred to Pakistan-China Institute's new initiatives planned for 2014 which include a book project on Pakistan-China friendship, the first-ever Urdu travelogue on Xinjiang, online teaching classes in Chinese language, formation of Pak-China Business Council and Trilateral Dialogue between think tanks of China, Afghanistan and Pakistan in May 2014 in Islamabad.

Hussain emphasized that PCI would bring the youth, women, media, academia and think tanks of the two countries closer together in the coming days.

The report also highlighted the prime ministers' visits between Pakistan and China in 2013, which resulted in the historical decision to establish a Pak-China Economic Corridor.

The chief guest on the occasion, the Ambassador of China Sun Weidong said remarkable bilateral achievements were observed last year which include exponential increase in bilateral trade to over 12 billion U.S. dollars, commercial operations of Gwadar Port by a Chinese company, visit of over 50,000 Pakistanis to China, and greater interaction between parliamentarians and think-tanks in the two countries.

"Pak-China friendship is unique and exemplary state-to-state relations for the world, in fact, if the world could emulate this example, there would be everlasting peace," said the ambassador.

A documentary "Rising China" was also screened on the occasion, which described the economical, political and social development of China during last five decades
