On May 18-21, Panhard General Defense received a delegation from the Romanian Ministry of Defense coming to take delivery of its last batch of 6 PVP light armored vehicles intended for the Romanian Army. With more than 1,200 vehicles in service in the French Army, the PVP built by Panhard General Defense is also an export success.

In service in several countries (France, Chile, Togo and Romania), the PVP is a 4x4, airtransportable, light armored vehicle available in several versions: communications / command, personnel carrier, pick-up or law enforcement.

Its good mobility, its agility in confined environments (urban or mountain) and its NATO level 2 armor make it a vehicle well suited for current operations.

The Romanian Ministry of Defense bought 16 vehicles in 2012, and the purpose of this visit was to take delivery of its last batch of 6 PVPs.

It also gave the visiting military delegation an opportunity to give Panhard General Defense teams their positive impressions of the vehicles already in service.

The LAORV version specific to the Romanian Army offers a number of new developments. In addition to its STANAG level 2 ballistic protection, it provides STANAG level 2A anti-blastprotection. The vehicle can be operated in climatic zones varying from -32°C to +50°C.

As the vehicles are subsequently fitted out by the Romanian company CSR for carrying out area and perimeter control missions, they will then be ready to join an international projection force under the auspices of the United Nations or NATO.

Romania's increasing its defence budget,wait to see more contracts i guess. (From what i see,Romania still has a lot of stuff from the soviet-era,if you guys had started a modernization program since many years ago,you would have really advanced.... but the problem is these politicians i guess.... )

Well,yes....ALL in laughable numbers.And the Mraps were good for A'stan not an European war scenario.Piranhas were a major fail when the national industry has the Saur 2 ready for operation and anyway.....31 Piranhas ? What are we,Luxembourg ?

Guys, this aren't made for a "classical" war. They're not even made for something like Afghanistan & low level insurgency.

They're armored trucks for peace keeping, SF use and so forward. They're not IFV's and we don't need more than a couple of dozens, at most, considering we already have Humvees.. ..all in all a good purchase.

@Gabriel92 imho, our best purchases are the Spike atgms and the Hawks (if we can manage to upgrade them). Both are things we really need in a Ukrainian style conflict, and plenty of them

@flamer84 careful what you wish for with those "only" 31 Piranhas...we might get hundreds and pay for them until the second coming of Christ on earth.

Looking at that list and staying realistically some things can be done in a short medium period:

-More SH F16 ,MLU-ed ofcourse
-Yes...600-700 APC's at least...preferably the native Saur 2----1 million $ a piece vs 2.5 for Piranha
-Tanks ? That's a must !....But i don't see a quick solution for that one
-IFV's ? That really won't be done...at best an upgrade for the current ones and it willbe ok-ish
-New Air defence...that should be a priority,what we have now it's just disgracefull.They're probably counting on the US to provide something due to their ABM site in here.
-Transport planes ? No at this one.We're good with 4 Hercules and 7 Spartan's.....we don't need to project anything.
-Helicopters ? it will be probably the Super Puma due to the new Airbus investement in Brasov,i have no ideea about attack helicopters though,we badly need those to,the old SOCAT Puma ain't cutting it anymore
-Frigates ? no...you don't need frigates for the Black Sea,upgrade the current ones (it's happenning right now) and it's enough....4 new corvettes are a must !

S-au dus oamenii in vacanta, ce-ai tu cu ei ?

Stai sa vedem si cu Piranha, nu-i inca stabilit. Poate luam Saur (daca se dovedeste ca e acceptabil, normal)

There aren't enough money, and since the defense has been neglected for 20 years we just can't buy everything we need now .
They best would be to make what we can ourselves, even if it's somewhat inferior to the import options, and concentrate whatever money there is in to purchasing equipment we can't make (tanks, planes, air defense, communications..etc)
