Islamabad—The French Ambassador Martine Dorance, Tuesday, observed that French automobile companies were keen to invest in Pakistan. Therefore, concessions can be given in the start to new French entrants in Pakistani automobile market” she floated a proposal to Federal Minister for Industries and Production Ghulam Murtaz Jatoi. According to Ministry of Industries and Production, the Minister agreed to the proposal saying that pacific concessions had already been added as a strategy in the new Auto Policy 2015.

Speaking about the French automobile industry, the Ambassador said that many French companies were interested in investing and settings up assembly plants in Pakistan. She revealed that major interest was shown by Renault–Nissan Alliance, a Franco-Japanese strategic partnership between automobile manufacturers Renault, based in Paris, France, and Nissan, based in Yokohama, Japan, which together sell more than one in 10 cars worldwide.

Speaking in a meeting, the hoped that Pakistan and France could bring bilateral relations to a new frontier under her leadership. Dorance also said that localization of spare parts by French companies could also be discussed to assist the infrastructure of French cars assembly Jatoi also discussed the possibility of green technology and wind energy cooperation between both countries. The Ambassador said that a delegation of business people could be sent at the beginning of next year and stakeholders from specific sectors can meet their Pakistani counters parts on such visits.

Jatoi assured full cooperation of his Ministry and will help alleviate all hindrances to attract investment. The Minister for Industries & Production stressed that the Pakistani market has a high demand for smaller cars keeping in mind the income level of its people. He added that Pakistan is a strategic asset, which can act as a hub to Asia for Western partners such as France.

So is renault going to import ckd's from India? They have invested 6300 crores in India and 5000 more planned but their plants are running at 50/60% capacity. Imports from India would be cheaper logistics wise and the same time utilize their idle capacity

read again before quoting - "assembly plants" which differ from a full fledged manufacturing unit. There is a difference between assembling and manufacturing new cars and kits from steel made in India. Renault exports most of the cars made in India. Localisation for the upcoming Duster and Kwid is ~95% and for older models more than 80%.

It's an Assembly Plant .... so may be yeah they would Import Parts from India.... But still I really hope it breaks the monopoly of Suzuki-Honda-Toyota

It is the best A segment car in the world :) bit too small for my needs but perfect for zipping around the city. Cheap as sin. Mere ~ 5000 USD for on the road (includes insurance, taxes and most accessories)

on topic: I guess Renault's manufacturing units were setup with the idea of expanding to other asian countries and thus we see this development in Pakistan. But anyway , its a god news for Pakistan.. this should help in a lot of employement.

Frenches are also corrupt. Hopefully they will manage ways to Pakistani auto market. Of course, they will not assemble any thing in Pakistan according to European standards, nonetheless it will be good addition.
Renos are good, though give pain in a$$ when need repair work.
