An honest and progressive judge killed, a young aspiring lawyer’s life cut short, a “bhola” police officer dead, along with many more, in the attack on the District Court in the capital city of Islamabad. Yet, we see muted condemnation of the attack from our government officials, and the very next day, the Prime Minister meets with his team of negotiators and asks them to continue their efforts with the Peace Talks.
On the other hand, the thinking public is very clear with its stance on the so-called Peace Talks; there should not be any. It is easy to see that the social media is in unanimous agreement in regards to seeing the TTP punished. Just a few days ago we saw a good pounding by the PAF jets, along with the Army gunships which had the TTP running for cover.
They sure were quick to announce an unconditional ceasefire for a month after that. Yet, the attacks with all the hallmarks of the TTP continue, while their spokesperson quickly disassociates themselves from these attacks. They know very well that the Pakistani Security Forces are very capable of wiping them out quickly.
Many people think that the TTP has announced the temporary truce to re-strategize and regroup. If we can read the writing on the wall then why can’t the government officials? Some of us may not know that the Judge, Rafaqat Ahmed Khan Awan, who was targeted and killed, was the one who had dismissed the plea of Lal Masjid Mullah against Musharraf’s government. We are still sitting across the table to negotiate peace with the perpetrators of violence?
It boggles my mind to see where our priorities lie? Shouldn’t the entire group of closet Taliban in our government be shown the depths of the Arabian Sea? What do you think?
