We as a ex-pat community are the greatest asset Pakistan has. While the elected politicos, officials extort money in Pakistan and then send it abroad. We on the other hand send money back to Pakistan. I come from Attock district. Significant chunk of the economy in my district is supported by ex-pats - directly or indirectly. Hi Op , We are not sure Of your points here, in discussing about our ex-pats reasons for going to Pakistan. So far we see anger resentment from you strange. But let’s try and understand why are theses expats for example returning regular to Pakistan and why these ex-pats are spending their thousands of $|€\£ in Cost of traveling these vast distances to reach Pakistan examples here; there for marriage , family reunions, loss of a loved one or returning to care for ancestral homes and lands. why would any of these valid reasons upset anyone here I don’t know. And let’s just say during their brief stay in Pakistan they had a very bad rude encounter with a official their, And are expressing it. Well what’s wrong with that. These expats stay in there villages not like they are trampling on the locals. I lived in Pakistan like millions of others and had regular experiences from these officials snakes. Always demanding bribes for everything so let’s not try too pretend it doesn’t exist back home and attack a expat for talking about it. Millions of Pakistanis are now born or are living outside of Pakistan. Why view them as less Pakistani seriously. The Pakistanis back home I left in my home town are nothing to shout about. Pakistanis holding uk passports or American ones are required to do so from the host country to legally travel. No point in making that a big deal of here it’s required by law for them to have it. In return expats sponsor entire areas back home in employment to locals and sending valuable remittances to help Pakistan. Don’t see any reason of discord at all

What's wrong with you? His experience is 100% correct. The customs guys at the airport and the traffic police on the roads around them are incredibly corrupt, especially if they see cars without locally registered number plates.

Traffic police in the UK will pull you over and issue a fine if you have commited a wrong. police on traffic duty around the airport will pull cars over, check paperwork, in the hope of finding something to get a bribe with. Anyone who has all their documentation has nothing to worry about.

As for the airport, the security guys are total pros, they will scan all the bags, search people etc, but customs are full of people who's father are unknown. They automatically assume people have cigarettes, or food or things like that and will BEG for bribes. Immigration are okay, the guys at the check in desks are okay, but customs are corrupt to the core. Every single traveller faces the same questions "bhai, koi cha pani hoi je?"

Unfortunately local police at checkpoints target cars which are not registered locally. They are on the look out for bribes. they will stop cars who have stickers on the windows and stuff like that (which i think are traffic violations), but won't issue a fine, instead they will as for bribes.

Also inside the airports, the customs and the baggage handlers are constantly begging for money.

You said you are not from punjab which mean you have not experienced corruption in Islamabad airport. What Azad Kashmir said is100% true. Anyway I don't know why Mirpur doesn't have international airport yet.

I just got back the new airport is waste of time/money still same c rap bribe airport service. Had to pay 9000 rupees for bags then 120 rupees each for airport tax.

Before that we were on the motorway heading towards the airport got stopped and police officer says to my uncle why you driving in this lane etc basically he wanted money but my uncle pulled put papers then he just let us go, then we get stopped by military who just open our door looked and close door sent of off then we got stopped again.

wtf hungry dirty bas trds no shame. airport looks nice but service is sh it and bribe.

But i don't need bigotry from other ethnic groups. At least in England everybody lines up their is no VIP culture maybe in some places but that is rare.

Why is it when azad Kashmir over sea people arrive why do Pakistani in pak behave like animals they never do this in England when they visit. Why do they never do this with Europeans when they arrive at pak airports. I have witness Europeans in groups jumping over rails and pushing in line but hey pak airport workers do nothing just stand there like cowards. Well it wasn't mirpuri that ruined pakistan. They cant make anything we have had people go over invest but come back to say they looted us.

Why visit? because my ancestors are from there okay, plus great weather, great food, open land, like to meet great people, I like to see country side, mountains, animals, rivers, meet relatives i never seen, less laws make it better experience for example driving in the village no need license, wakeup to morning hot tea and paratha, get up when you want, go sleep outside look up to the stars, hear frogs and crikets at night, less computer, tv distraction, you actually talk to people, people actually visit you unlike in uk no time, Need healing they just call up somebody that will give you treatment home remedy in uk we just eat tablet. No more phone calls you're at peace, go to one house to another in village and eat, life is at slow pace and calm.
