Remember IK opposed any form of 3rd party interference from Pakistani soil into Afghanistan including airspace. The contract was due to expire later in 2021 and there was no intention of IK government to renew that agreement.

You are wrong.

There was a formal agreement with Musharraf for 10 years, agreement renewed for 10 years at the time of PPP. The agreement ended in the later half of 2021. IK government had made it clear that it won't be renewed.

Currently no formal agreement exists for the use of Pakistan airspace, the air corridor Pakistan allowed passed through Balochistan.

America wants to have an another broad based security arrangement with Pakistan, which IK government absolutely rejected.

The real question is who are local players who are in negotiations?
