There are a handful of stories that are only tangentially related to this tangled web

Yiddish people in Poland, Lithuania and Ukraine.
In Late Antiquity and the High Middle Ages, the bulk of Judaism was in Persia and Hispania.
Of the three branches within rabbinic Judaism (mizrahim, sefardim, askenazim) he third one triumphed in Poland, Lithuania and Ukraine thanks to the following Totem-Pole:
A) Catholic ruling class
B) Yiddish people
C) Christian peasantry
