1. Before 1860 the area around Janakpur belonged to the Darbangha Raj kingdom. After this point the British rewarded the Nepalese with this land for helping them suppress the 1857 rebellion in the Treaty of Sugauli. Janakpur and surrounding areas where always a part of the Mithila speaking region.

2. As mentioned, Janakpur has always belonged to Indian people, the people of Madhesh also retain close ties with Indians in UP and Bihar. Madhesis describe this as a 'roti-beti' relationship. My own grandmother is Madhesi. They are Indian not Nepali.

3. Madhesis are treated badly by Nepalese and called 'indian' and 'dhoti'. Police beat them.

But can you please tell us about why the equation between the Nepalese state and Madhesis is such? Has this discrimination and ill-treatment been ongoing or does it have anything to do with the rise of new powers (Maoists) in Nepal?

It has been going on for generations.

Madhesis themselves demand independence.

Why can't some people just let others be in their condition, Nepal is matured enough to sort out their own shit.
These Madhesis are our people, 40% of Biharis have relations there. If this continues then it can spill over into Bihar and UP

No need to put our head in some other countries problem. If previous ownership becomes the yardstick then British will again claim India.

40% of Biharis are related to Madhesis, do you want a potential spillover?

So you believe India annexing madhesh is a solution?
Well I believe it's madness.

India can do some things indirectly. "Facilitate" UNHCR and Amnesty International pressure, for example. It might even work on a country like Nepal. But of course India cannot make Nepal feel isolated also. There is a country to the North of Nepal which is friends with every pariah state in the world.

Then give them asylum, and put pressure on Nepalese government for a fare treatment. Just because it has been part of ancient Indian kingdom, doesn't justify its annexation in 21st century.

Clearly when an area is in chaos the first option is too annex it, great idea.

It's part of Indian history. If India can annex Goa, why not Madhesh and then the whole Nepal. This remind me of annexation of Sudatenland and then the whole Czechslovakia.
