Air Force F-22 Raptors arrive at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar, June 27. The aircraft are deployed to Qatar for the first time to defend American forces and interests in U.S. Central Command.

Nearly a dozen Air Force F-22 stealth fighters have deployed to the Persian Gulf state of Qatar, part of a force buildup requested by U.S. Central Command in May in response to what it called heightened Iranian threats against American forces in the region.

U.S. Air Forces Central Command on Friday said the F-22 Raptors arrived at al-Udeid Air Base to “defend American forces and interests.” It posted to its website photos of several F-22s arriving there Thursday and said this is the first time F-22s have deployed to al-Udeid, which is a hub for U.S. air operations in the Middle East.

F-22s, which carry air-to-air missiles and can perform ground-attack missions as well, had previously deployed to al-Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates, where they were used last year in support of U.S. and partner forces in Syria.

Four B-52 strategic bombers were deployed to al-Udeid days after a May 5 White House announcement that the Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier strike group also was being rushed to the region in response to “troubling and escalatory indications and warnings” and as a “message to the Iranian regime that any attack on United States interests or on those of our allies will be met with unrelenting force.”

At the request of Gen. Frank McKenzie, commander of Central Command, additional Patriot air-and-missile defense systems also were sent to the Gulf region in recent weeks. He also is receiving additional surveillance and intelligence-gathering aircraft to improve the military’s ability to monitor potential Iranian threats against shipping in the Gulf area.

Europe says Iran trade channel operational: statement
1 Min Read

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Britain, France and Germany have a special trade channel up and running with Iran that aims to circumvent U.S. economic sanctions, the EU said in a statement.

“France, Germany and the United Kingdom informed participants that INSTEX had been made operational and available to all EU Member States and that the first transactions are being processed,” the EU said in a statement, referring to the channel’s formal name.

Iran has also established an entity to trade with Europe, while some more EU countries are joining INSTEX as shareholders, the statement said, following talks between the remaining signatories to the Iran nuclear deal - Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany - after the United States pulled out.

Has to get approved by the Security Council, IIRC. That would mean Bolton would have a say in Iran getting S-400s; not going to happen until late 2020, when Iran can purchase arms according to the JCPOA without UN approval. By that time trump will veto (sanctions on anyone selling arms to Iran, as they punish anyone buying Iranian oil) Putin's sale of S-400s to Iran to the desire and wish of Putin.

Better to punish everyone bad and get nukes.

defensive weapons ( air defenses ) are not part of the UN arms embargo on IRAN, but i agree Russians are not reliable
