KARACHI: The federal cabinet on Wednesday approved an operation led by the paramilitary Rangers force to deal with the rising lawlessness and unrest in the commercial hub of Karachi.
A special session of the federal cabinet was called at the Governor House in Karachi, also attended by top government officials including the chief of the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt-Gen Zaheerul Islam, DG Rangers Sindh Maj-Gen Rizwan Akhtar, and chief of the Citizen’s Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) Ahmed Chinoy.
After a detailed discussion, it was approved that the Rangers be given special powers for a targeted operation against criminal gangs and armed militias operating in the city.
