After finalising Aishwarya Rai Bachchan for the role of Sarabjit Singh's sister, director Omung Kumar has now announced the actor who will play the titular role in the film on the Indian languishing in a Pakistan jail on charges of spying.
"Yes Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Randeep Hooda are going to be in my next biopic, Sarabjit," Omung confirmed on Wednesday.
“Randeep is the ideal choice for my file. He fits the role really well and besides being the hard working person that he is, he looks the character. Above all, he’s a method actor,” said the filmmaker adding that it would be interesting to witness a different kind of chemistry between Aishwarya and Randeep who will be seen as siblings in the biopic.
When asked if it was a conscious decision since Hooda was a Harayanvi himself, Omung quickly said, “Well that’s only the added connection and while it could prove to of help, I opted for Randeep because of his acting abilities and his looks for this particular character.”
Randeep is cast in the film after featuring in a string of successful films such as Kick, Highway and Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster.
Sarabjit biopic will trace the struggles of Dalbir Kaur (to be played by Aishwarya) who runs from pillar to post to get her younger brother out of the Pakistani jail.
This is the first time Randeep will share screen space with Aishwariya. The film is slated to hit theatres in May 2016.
