Former US envoy Zalmay Khalilzad has expressed shock over Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah’s recent “threatening remarks” against PTI chief Imran Khan, terming the statement an incitement to violence.

Taking to Twitter on Tuesday, the former US diplomat said Pakistani interior minister's statement that "either Imran Khan exists or we do is shocking and should be rejected by all god fearing and law abiding Pakistanis”.

In a recent interview, Sanaullah had said that country’s political situation has reached the point where the ruling Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) can go to any extent to protect its existence from PTI chief Imran Khan.

“The country’s politics has been brought to the level where the existence of only one of the two [PTI and PML-N] is possible,” the interior minister said in an interview aired on Saturday.

Terming his remarks an incitement to violence against the country’s major political leader, Khalilzad urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to publicly disassociate himself from his minister's comments.

“This mindset is a big reason for Pakistan's dysfunctionality. If that does not change, the country will continue to be mired in crisis,” he added.

The former US envoy appeared unfazed by Pakistan’s Foreign Office repeated warnings against meddling in the country’s internal affairs and continued to issuing statements mainly in favour of the PTI chief.

Earlier today, Principal Deputy Spokesperson for the United States Department of State Vedant Patel stated that the former US diplomat, Khalilzad was a private citizen whose opinions did not represent Washington's foreign policy.

During a press briefing, a Pakistani journalist asked Patel to clarify Khalilzad’s statements after the ex-ambassador was observed “advising the Pakistani government” and the Supreme Court regarding the political situation in the country.

The reporter stated that there was a general sentiment in Pakistan that Khalilzad’s statements expressed the US government’s sentiments.

Influential people in the US are taking more at how incompetently the PDM are performing.

This one must be new to Pakistani politics

. .
Try that and all of Punjab will lynch you Amritsari scum one by one.

.
So far, there has not been any aggressive or decisive reaction from Imran Khan's side. They have remained pacifist. However, if they were to respond, it would be quick, cost-effective, and cause the least amount of damage and loss. I believe that they should respond now for the sake of the country. The majority of people, whether civilian or otherwise, are with him. Continuing this suspense-like situation could endlessly damage the economy and society. It's important to put an end to it.
PTI does not have any supporters who will fight except for some in KP.
When have Punjab and Sindh fought for anything? Sindhis witnessed their leaders hanged and deported. Punjabis supported Nawaz Shareef but did nothing twice when he was kicked out by chaprasis.
They can only roit and loot but never fight for their political beliefs because they don't have any.

If anything happens to IK then PTI support base niether has any capacity nor the will to bring perpetrators to mob justice.
I agree with Nawaz Shareef's assessment as claimed by IK that there will be looting and burning for a few days like after Benazir's death then it will be all over.

. . . .
Its more about "shit, we bet on these clowns?"
That’s why it seems they let/asked Zal to start to comment on what’s going on. They know IK is the most popular leader and in 6 months time he will be back in office if free and fair elections are held. Extending an olive branch after IK toned down the rhetoric directed their way seems to be what’s happening.

In the mean time they invited Bilo to the next conference on democracies, but considering the topics being discussed and the possible number of Pakistani-American protestors that will assemble, embarrassing the PDM even further, it’s just going to weaken the PDM and Bilo’s future prospects in the eyes of the US, and give the US more remorse considering the lot they are dealing with and their lack of popular local support.
