What's new

Rana Bhagwan Das, Pakistan's new CEC?

WE need some serious reforms in our election process that involve electronic voting, permanent staffs with proper training, permanent polling booths with CCTV facility and better security etc.
Makes sense for 1200 million population where electoral system takes place twice. But in Pakistan where electoral days are hardly 7-8 in all, what would you achieve by paying the staff for 365 days a year?

we need to get rid off this Parchi system to ensure more fairness.
For Imran Khan its more about ego than anything else....He has lost and he hasn't been able to digest it....Like a desperate blinded soldier swinging his sword in every direction without clue.

IK has lost? Prove it by opening the 4 constituencies he demands, loser!

A good and honorable man. A great Pakistani.
Mr. Fakhruddin G Ibrahim was also a good an honorable man but he ended up like what he ended up. Same is going to happen with Justice Bhagwan Das had he had not given the FULL authority to run the show. Knowing the Houses of Sharif and Bhutto/Zardari, I don't think it is going to happen, so if I were Justice Das, I would have kept my self at arms length from this mess.

My Question is WHY we are relying on old retired judges who are not reliable or neutral at all?

The clue lies in the bargaining (muk muka) being negotiated between the PML(N) and PPP on the appointment of CEC has tons of clues in it. They want an aged person with least energy to do their dirty job in the upcoming general elections. Is this ever going to change? I don't think so, so even though I support PTI, I know a real change in Pakistan will not come through the electoral process but through a bloody revolution. Until and unless these 'tried-and-tested' politicians along with their entire families are not killed and burnt in the incinerators, nothing is going to happen.

Bloody revolution like Iran is not going to happen here. Our society is too corrupt for a real revolution per Qadri demands. Did you know that people of Iran believed their absolute monarch Shah Pahlavi was a stooge of US / British / Israel, when it was Imam Khomeini who was in contact with CIA and MI5 all this time?

Progressive revolutions (real revolutions) like the French Revolution or American Revolution are very rare occurrences of human history

Pakistanis have an enormous threshold for abuse, granted, but every living being has a final threshold, and once it is reached, repulsion is bound to happen. On the rise inflation, lack of electricity, over-billing, ever deteriorating law-and-order situation, all these parameters are pushing Pakistanis for a revolution.

IK has to talk more an more about these social issues and try to reach to the lower and lower-middle class. Change does not come from middle or upper middle-class (which are currently supporting IK) for these classes by in large are always pro-status quo. Change comes when the lower and lower middle-classes abandon working and come on the roads.

Revolutions need complete new candidates. Look at the revolutionaries around IK. Same old status quo politicians. Even if IK reaches to the throne of Prime Minister, one man cannot change anything. There is still a huge Ro Imran Ro crowd in Punjab and Karachi to be taken care of. They will destroy or hinder every policy set by PTI as they are doing in KPK these days.

That is correct, and that is why IK has to let go (at least publicly) his desire of becoming a PM for a while, and focus sharply on bringing up the social issues, and bring awareness to the people of their rights. So far he is doing not too bad but he has to reach the lower and lower middle class more aggressively and progressively. With hordes of supporters on his back, he would not need SMQ, Jahangir Tareen, Khattak, Siraj ul Haque -type supporters. He has to find his power in people and not in the so-called 'electables'. He has to mimic Bhutto, who truly derived his power from people and it was because of that people's power he was able to challenge the status quo though his demise came from his own overconfidence and increasingly distancing from the people who once provided him with the immense power.

There was practically no status quo in Pakistan before Bhutto. In fact Bhutto himself guaranteed status quo for the decades to come by approving a contradictory Constitution that works only for the status quo parties in power. No wonder why and how he won 1977 General Elections through rigging and fraud by making sure they were constitutionally "right" for his party :D
Bhutto is sole responsible for the mess Pakistan is currently in, including loss of East Pakistan.

Rana bhagwan das is definitely a very good choice. He has fought for the independence of judiciary in the past. I think all political parties would have no objection over Rana Bhagwan das since he belongs to a minority and the government would learn towards him just to make the minorities happy as well

LOL. Former CJ Iftikhar Ch. was no different as he too fought for judiciary, or better: himself :D

I think that as long as Idiot Khan is lurking around, Rana Bhagwaan Das would never accept this post.

Rana sb would never want to get abused by this brainless cricketer at the age of 80 and being a retired judge of the Supreme Court.

Government,PPP & PTI agree on Justice (R) Rana Bhagwan Das for CEC Post

He must be a very good man. In subcontinent countries, It is very unlikely that 3 major parties agree on one individual for such an influential constitutional post.
