Well connected sources tell me that the govt is going to appoint Justice Rana Bhagwan Das as the new Chief Election Commissioner.

While we all know and respect Mr Bhagwan das for his integrity, i have a gut feeling that this is another Fakhru Bhai in making. The Noon league's rigging machine relies on low and mid level officials who are tasked with raping Pakistan's democratic system to bring these balded racoons into power, again and again and again.

I'm of the view that Mr Bhagwan das should refuse this job. He is being used as a fresh cherry on top of a cake made of cow dung, which they have feeding to the Pakistani public since Zia's time.

Installing a clean face on the most corrupt and disreputed institution is nothing but a cold joke. We need a total and visible revampment of the ECP before they can pull off stunts like this to maintain their criminal family entrrprise.

Thoughts?

Changing one person will not help, the entire electoral system should be changed. Totaly agree with Horus regarding another Fakhru bhai is in making.

Any man appointed to the post of CEC would be controversial. Unless the CEC role is truly independent with wide ranging powers, don't expect anything.

It reminds of something fairly similar, a famous 'analyst' (Retd PAF person)Shehzad Chaudhry, who wrote column/op-eds for major news outlets and appeared on tv, was critical of PPP in the last few years. Upon Zardari's insistence, he has joined PPP.
My point being, any body would do any thing, all you need is $$$. If someone says they are not corrupt and they won't accept this or that, he is is lying. What it really means is that you need to up your offer significantly.

Nice to see a Hindu in a respectable position in Pakistan. Good luck to him.

. . . .
Apparently there is a "small" problem in him becoming CEC.

He has been the chairman of FPSC and for him to become CEC a constitutional amendment will be needed.....and he is not favor of the amendment for his sake.

Nice to see a Hindu in a respectable position in Pakistan. Good luck to him.

Probably you don't know; many hindu, christians and other non-muslims have served Pakistan in politics, civil admin., armed forces etc. (I mean at high positions).

he very well knows it and is just trolling. Don't waste your time on these scums.

He will just have same powers like other member of election commission but will be called chief. The best thing he could do it if selected is to blow whistle on Elections 2013 (Day dreaming). Justice Nasir is more better.

He already WAS!

Position of CEC will be kind of let down for him.

Because PTI (Pakistani Tehrike Internet) is not going to win in 2018.

And they will not hesitate dragging through political mud, this great person, and a great judge

Good choice but we need to reform the whole election commission and make whole election process more free & fair.

Whole election process?

What do you mean? you mean changing poling station staff?

WE need some serious reforms in our election process that involve electronic voting, permanent staffs with proper training, permanent polling booths with CCTV facility and better security etc.

no one in the world maintains permanent staff for something that happens every 5 years.

Electronic voting is good, but it is not the silver bullet.

IK will still be crying in 2018 even if you bring in e-votes.
