There are many Urdu speakers in Puran Dacca and CTG...Brother don't get the people of BD confused with the ideas that the forefront of '71 had. 99.9% are welcoming.

sometimes its very difficult to find a place for iftar in Dhaka...well known restaurants fill up within 5pm...few days ago we were not able to find a place so did it after 30 minute

Yup quite a few. Mostly concentrated in the more affluent areas of town but of course the F&B price ranges vary. And all of them have Suhoor and Iftar deals. Characteristically like all other Muslim countries - restaurants see better business during the month of fasting.

I'm listing a few new ones which have good reputation.

There is a special event based on Suhoor - image below. This is a 'food convention' with almost all restaurants participating and was organized to help underprivileged children.

The following videos also highlight two restaurants specializing in steak and grilled meats.

And of course don't forget Brazilian steak specialties at Brazil Churrasco

Prices are very affordable. Are there many steak houses in Dhaka?
Western style steak/BBQ restaurants were quite trendy in Chittagong and Dhaka before I left for US. i even had few iftars in them.

Every one Please share How Ramadan is spent in Bangladesh ? Famous foods you guys eat and also How many Taraweeh are offered in most mosques and How whole month is spent ? I know its defence section still we have some lighter talk
for the whole month, schools have relaxed hours or closed and offices and factories have relaxed hours. there is "Mah e Ramzan programming" on TV. Pakistani programs are also popular. then there is Eid shopping and specialized marketing from businesses. traditional items i'm familiar with that have sharp rise in popularity in Ramazan - Haleem, chana boot, cheera (sweet dish involving various things), jelabi, burinda, dahi bara, faluda, piyazi/pakora, "baiguni" or eggplant pakora, (and very importantly) Rooh Afza and lot more. these items that mostly comprise that "appetizer" (or dessert) part of desi iftars before main course. iftars are followed by a little time to rest before going off to Taraweeh. some eat iftar leftovers after Taraweeh. when taking sehri, food resorts back to non-Ramazan items. some people are adventurous enough to eat out during sehri sometimes - not a traditional thing to do i guess. these are based on my experience. however Ramazan in USA is totally different ball game.

Bangali foods look quite different

Well - other than post #35 above - most of those images are foreign food items.

Traditional Bengali iftar items are mainly fried pakoras, chana/boot dal-based savory fritters and of course various type of soft or crispy Jalebi. This artery-hardening collection is moderated a bit by salads (tomato, cucumber, mooli/gajjar), dates, fruit, soup/shorba as well as icy drinks like fruit-sharbat/sweet lassi made from Strawberry/Mango or in some cases Borhani (Salt & Pepper Mint Lassi).

But in larger cities here people (especially the new generation) have started to eat non-traditional items for Iftar and Sehri.

Fasts are almost always broken slowly using ice-water, a little Haleem then followed up after Maghrib with a heavier follow up Iftar consisting of the above items.

High Priced Hotels like Le Méridien in Dhaka also serves buffet iftar but their items (as expected) are quite exotic and pricey. Here is their recent offer.

"Le Méridien Dhaka food and beverages team promise an equally stimulating buffet iftar with dinner for food connoisseurs as it is the first Ramadan for the hotel since its operation from early June.

For Ramadan, the restaurant is adding to the number with iftar menus, both traditional and reinterpreted. While dishes such as aloo chop, chola bhuna, beguni and piyazu will of course be there.

Cuisines immersed in Arabic, Cajun, Mexican, Mughal, Tandoori, Thai, Italian, Japanese and European flavors will also add to this sensorial spectacular.

Marketing Communications Manager of Le Méridien Dhaka Zaireen Sultana Lupa sent a press release on Thursday.

“We want guests to savor the festivity of Ramadan,” declared Executive Chef Olivier Loreaux. “We want them to embark on an epicurean expedition of iftar from across the world.”

“We are offering the buffet iftar plus dinner at the regular buffet dinner prices,” informed the hotel’s Food and Beverages Director Johannes Steyn.

He also added “The dinner is served at the same time as the iftar so that our guests have the flexibility of how they choose to dine and enjoy their evening. We also offer 03 private dining rooms at the restaurant with seating for 15-20 guests each.”

The buffet iftar plus dinner is available at BDT 3,600++ on weekdays and BDT 4,400++ for Fridays and Saturdays. And for the first time in Bangladesh, Latest Recipe is also offering Buffet Sehri at the very reasonable price of BDT 2,000++ (7% Service Charge and 15% VAT applicable).

The restaurant is also partnered with Standard Chartered Bank, The City Bank American Express and Prime Bank JCB to offer the popular “Buy 1 Get 1 Free” offer for the buffet options. Minimum 06 hours prior reservations required to avail the Buffet Sehri. Reservations can be made by calling +88 01723 595463.
