Technically, the MMRCA battle isn’t over just yet, though Eurofighter is still working on a counter strategy to break back into the reckoning. However, indications suggest that the Rafale bid was significantly more competitive than the Typhoon’s. Still, there may be one war left that the Typhoon and Rafale will fight. The Rafale and a concept navalized version of the Eurofighter are technically in the reckoning for the Indian Navy’s next fighter buy. These are aircraft that will fly off the navy’s second aircraft carrier. The navy is understood to be extremely keen that its new generation carriers (apart from the first one) have catapult launch systems.
While the Rafale and F-35C (also offered) are CATOBAR jets, the other three, the naval Typhoon, MiG-29K and concept Sea Gripen are proposed as STOBAR aircraft using a deck ski-jump. Industry sources indicate that the Rafale’s advantage in the MMRCA could influence the way the navy thinks, in terms of platform commonality with the IAF, should the latter choose to conclude a contract with Dassault. The navy fighter competition is still in a pre-RfP stage, though it has gone through several rounds of information exchange and scrutiny. Lockheed-Martin has proposed by the VTOL F-35B and the CATOBAR F-35C variants, while Rosoboronexport will be making a full attempt to convince the navy to simply order more MiG-29Ks. A design freeze on a catapult launch configuration would narrow the competition down considerably.

F - 35C will be a better buy for navy...
 
i thought f35 WAS not in MMRCA program puls it far to expensive and still not offered to india in MMRCA program

They are talking about Navel MMRCA. Fighter jets for second Indian aircraft career. N as far as i know it is almost as costly as Eurofighter typhoon ( can be anywhere between US$89 million to US$200 milllion).

About cost part, it is just a case with Italy that EFT is costlier thn F35. further delays will surely increase price of f35 and also depends on what goodies you are willing to get wid it. How much advanced you want your 5th generation jet. otherwise hillary clinton is ready to sell F35 in $65 millions. Even cheaper thn most of the 4th gen fighters

the Australians and the British are re looking the JSF , the Aussies have in fact brought out a white paper on the subject . will try to post it . was a nice read.
i doubt the Navy will go for the JSF . they might go for the Rafael as it will have commonality with the Air Force.
 
Naval Eurofighter, again a paper plane, wont stand a chance. Even UK is buying F35 for its AC.

F-35, tailormade for SEAD operation, significantly enhance the power projection capability of navy. If US can gurrantee timely delivery of f-35, India will go for it.
 
India should definitely go for F-35,it will not be a surprise that USA might offer even f-22 to India around 2020.
 
If US can make a few guarantees to the IN as far as end-user agreements, TOT, servicing, weapons, price and configuration then the IN would be hard pressed not to go for the F-35 (which I have heard many naval aviators are pushing for and IN brass in general). Especially given the IN is looking for a platform that will last them for a few decades so it has to be relevant and futuristic with room for growth at time of induction (later this decade) which separates the N-MMRCA from MMRCA significantly.
 
F35 would be a costly affair, and also a long one. Remember 2443 F35's have to be produced for the U.S alone.
Then you also have the partners. I think the navy would probably just go for the Rafale - commonality with IAF, and production lines already available in India and a great multirole platform capable of doing everything under God's yellow Sun.
 
How many jets is IAC 2 supposed to carry?

Well , it depends upon the size of IAC2 , which could vary between 50000-65000 Tons
so we can expect between 32-40 Fighters plus some 10 ASW HELIS and 3-4 AEWC Aircrafts
