Rafale Deal:Dassault likely to enter into JV with Indian firm

.
They prices are correct.

Qatar has agreed to buy 24 Rafale fighter jets for $7 billion. That makes each Rafale almost 300 m. and Gripen would be half that price.
A) Speculation
B ) The specific details of the deal are unclear
C) More than likely that includes the cost of everything from spares to training to weapons

Money is an issue. If not we would have brought 126 rafales. There would have been no need to announce just 36 planes
You are wrong bro. The reason the MMRCA real for 126 got into the mess it was and subsequently scrapped/stalled was because of the talks between Dassualt and HAL going NOWHERE and thanks to the past DM's inability to progress the deal.

Money is not an issue and never was and I have pointed to why India has more than enough funds to finance such a deal.

Like I have said, this JV proposal will address the liability issues between HAL and Dassualt and thus pave the way for the 126++ Rafales coming to the IAF, mark my words.

Yes...and Brazil brought 36 Gripens for 5.4 billion that makes each Gripen with all its weapons just 150 million. Just half the price of rafale .

It is almost impossible to compare deals like this as we don't know the specifics of either. We will likely never know the true unit cost of a Rafale or Gripen as when both are sold they will be a) customised as per user needs b) sold as part of a package.

But 36 we bought for 4.2 billion only ... And Gripin NG already delayed .Now it won't fly until 2016/17 .2016 is the new deadline as per SAAB itself . It will take another 3-4 years for gripin to sell NG for others like if We wanted it . So I don't see any good reason to buy NG over ten as Over Tejas if Hal can increase its production line out put . Which is poised to be at more than 16-24 in just 1.5 years .Later fully modified Tejas MK2 enters production by 2022.

Hope you are right. 126 or as some reports suggested 183 rafales will make one hell of an airforce. but I have a different feel on the whole issue. Dassualt will try hard to convince Indians to go for 126, but the space is wide open. SAAB has a chance.

It's going to be more than 126 now either way as 36 are being procured in a flyaway condition and the figure for Rafales to be built in India remains at 108 so 144 at least but likely more.

I am not saying India will go for Grippen. It could be Tejas too, but I am sure that Rafale are not going replace Migs. Either Grippen or Tejas or some light fighter will replace Migs

No point in the Mark-1s either.

Comparing to Mk-2 the Gripen has gone a long way.. The NG mockup was in Brazil 2 weeks back.

And unlike Mk-2 LCA most of the systems are ready and is on process of integration that the final product will be renamed as NG , not a sperate fighter but same with different systems unlike the case of LCA.
Its just a mock up. SAAB suppose to deliver NG in 2015 for Brazil yet they have delayed . NG is very costly than current version SAAB need few more orders to fast track NG program . And that's why they are lobbying for soft target Which is our IAF as He has is been delayed . On other hand HAL started to work on war footing to cope up IAF requirements. Like IAF asked if or 5 tejas at least by this year end . We will do so.

On MK2 .... Reports suggest that its been designed from scratch as a new fighter . Am guessing it might future Canard or may be closer to J10 C/D .As no major changes needed if we are going for mk2 as planned . And I also hope for MK1.5 version after 40 MK1 and all MK1 upgraded to 1.5 with at present MK2 standard with AESA radar etc . Just look at the time line ManPar planned for new Mk2 its nearly 5-7 years (2022) . We can expect some major changes to increase payload , Better agility , better range etc. All fits J10 C or D version. If so that's the way to go. After all we will have tejas in very large numbers to take on our eastern neighborhood . Western neighborhood is just a piece of cake with our rusted and dusted 3gen jets. MK2 gonna be very stealthy I guess .

What ever Saab may want .... Its all about what we want. Is Saab interested in opening up new production line in India no problem its good for them as price could come down and India may negotiate and use its global muscles for more orders . Like Vietnamese and other cash strapped countries with our soft loans . So what ever may be decided by Modi govt . It will be on basis of good will for our nation. Sure Gripin will had more punch but the question is why to have something which you already have and improve up on it ? And I don't think IAF will suffer even if we don't go for Gripin . Now this is something might keep SAAB lobbies at arms length. After all their core completion will be Tejas with much more cost effective and very advanced in the sense of stuff it has /it will in the future ...

First, nobody knows what they got with it, service contracts, weapons, missiles etc etc..

Besides. ..... If there's one thing we know very well, we know how to Bargain. :D
