Advanced, All-Weather, Standoff. SAR-Optimized Targeting Pod. Revolutionizing Targeting Pod Capabilities with SAR Technology.

.
You beat me too it, I say this Friday but didn't get a chance to post it.
Pakistan should look into this as an upgrade of the Aselpod and add them to the JF-17 and Mirage Fleets
AESA capability without much modification to the aircraft itself

You already odered and it is delivered.

The differences is ASELPOD don't have SAR radar, but you are not using a fighter for recon missions.

A litening pod with SAR is not the same as our targetin pod, but the future is AESA radar. So you don't need SAR pod anymore.
The Litening pod with SAR is an upgrade of the Litening pod with an AESA radar on the side. I meant the Pakistan should as the Turks if they could do something similar with the Aselpods. We already use them and are happy with them. Adding a AESA radar for the SAR role would be really helpful for the most modest upgrade as possible.

You was before me, but yes in the future we will have AESA. Until then we will use it like that:-).

I believe aesa radar in nose cone can be used as SAR too

Its true, but a Litening pod with SAR type pod on our jets would give them most of the key upgrades to detect and employ the latest PGMs. With our limited budget, not having to modify and re-certify the aircrafts; especially the Rose mirages and Egyptian mirages. Its a cost effective solution that can be done quickly as well. This kind of pod would be a force multiplier. A cost benefit analysis would be done by the PAF whether this kind of upgrade is better or adding an Aesa into the noses of the mirages, but considering the age of the mirages, a pod would seem the most prudent choice.

mirages r near retirement aesa already selected for block 3 jf17

We plan to acquire 12 more Jf-17 Block II, 26 JF-17B, and 50 Jf-17 Block III for a final tally of 188 JF-17s in 4-5 years. Alongside 78 F-16s, we would still be short on enough aircraft, unless we plan to build in the ability to generate higher sortie rates and carry more munitions per Aircraft. We still need to consider modest upgrades to the Mirages to hold the line until their replacements come on line. If we are to maintain 20-26 fighter/bomber squadrons we would still need 74-176 fighter/bombers.

Hence maintaining 5-6 squadrons of Mirages with an Aesa SAR equipped E/O Targeting pod for the next 10-15 years would be the most cost effective strategy. 30 pods spread over these 5-6 squadrons could be acquired and fielded in a few years, and then given to the JF-17s when the mirages retire.

The targeting pod with AESA SAR could also allow the fighter to employ Turkish Weapons without having to integrate into the Chinese origin radar in the case of the JF-17 or Grifo radar on Rose mirages or French RC-400 Radar on the Egyptian Horus Mirages. This is the same strategy if you watch the video where it shows the Ligtening with SAR shown with the Su-30MKI hinting at integrating newer Israeli weapons on to the IAF aircrafts quickly.

Turkish PGMs we could employ across the entire fleet (including possibly the F-16s if Turkey can find a way to integrate the pod to our F-16s as they have done to their own F-16s) with such a pod. Weapons like the SOM cruise missile and its variants and future upgrades could let the PAF stay at the cutting edge with older aircraft as just the launch platforms. Pod based capabilities would also make the enemy have to consider any aircraft used by the PAF as potentially having fully modern capabilities.

P.S. at the end of this video they hint at developing cruise missiles with a range of 2500 km. which could not be procured directly, would aid in improving our own initiative like the Ra'AD or Babur; and making a Jammer missile like the MALD-J that could best be used with the data gathered against enemy SAM batteries or ground forces.

Mirages r too old with high accident frequency its better to just increase the jf17 order then to maintain and expend $ on old accident prone machines and jf17 aesa can work as sar if not already by a simple software upgrade and we should focus our bulk of resources on project azm
