Chinese researchers say they have achieved a record data streaming speed using a revolutionary technology that could help China take the lead in the global race for next-gen wireless communication, or 6G.
Using vortex millimetre waves, a form of extremely high-frequency radio wave with rapidly changing spins, the researchers transmitted 1 terabyte of data over 1km (3,300 feet) in a second.

If I understood correctly this is just using the photon angular momentum states to encode information rather than solely intensity, frequency and timeslot.

More like the realization of electromagnetic and optical fiber signal physical conversion, without the use of chip processing.

Interesting, but that was not clear from the simple textual interpretation of the article. In addition that is already available, it is called an antenna... So it must be something else.

China is starting to break out and ahead more and more.

Look at the 3-in-1 (orbiter, lander, rover) mission in Mars and the arm on the Chinese space station.

The quantum communication satellite.

The DC electro-magnetic generator in the Type 003 Carrier launch system and the railgun mounted on Haiyangshan 936. (Nothing like the AC EMALS on Ford.)

And China is still a developing country that won't even peak (reaching per capita income of Hong Kong) for another two or three decades.

Yes, I did a keyword search and it's a team from Zhejiang University.It uses special electromagnetic waves and special lasers, and then converts electromagnetic signals directly into optical signals through photoelectric conversion, excluding the logic computing chip.

I was correct in that they were using angular momentum multiplexing, which uses the angular momentum properties of the photon to encode information.

Communications using the orbital angular momentum (OAM) of radio waves have attracted much attention in recent years. In this paper, a novel millimeter-wave dual OAM mode antenna is cleverly designed, using which a 60 GHz wireless communication link with two separate OAM channels is experimentally demonstrated. The main body of the dual OAM antenna is a traveling-wave ring resonator using two feeding ports fed by a 90° hybrid coupler. A parabolic reflector is used to focus the beams. All the antenna components are fabricated by 3D printing technique and the electro-less copper plating surface treatment process. The performances of the antenna, such as S-parameters, near-fields, directivity, and isolation between the two OAM modes are measured. Experimental results show that this antenna can radiate two coaxially propagating OAM modes beams simultaneously. The multiplexing and de-multiplexing are easily realized in the antennas themselves. The two OAM mode channels have good isolation of more than 20 dB, thus ensuring the reliable transmission links at the same time.

I too lazy to explain what is going on. Basically anyone can do it if buy Keysight,

Not much progress can be made in commercial microwave or millimeter wave communication today. We have reach the peak. However a lot of interesting research can still be conducted for electronic warfare, radar, SAR imaging....etc

At this sampling rate, one implement a 512K QAM, and upconvert at short distance, sure can get 1 TB,
