A young Kenyan woman was allegedly assaulted by locals in Greater Noida on Wednesday, police said, the latest report of violence against Africans from the region this week.

The woman, identified by police as Maria Burendi, alleged she was dragged out of cab, slapped and beaten in the abdomen without any provocation by the locals near Alstonia Apartments in Sector Pi 1&2.

The woman, said to be in her 20s, was taken to a hospital for a medical examination where doctors confirmed the possibility of an assault, with abrasions on her hands. Dr Sanil Kapoor, superintendent of Greater Noida’s Kailash Hospital, told Hindustan Times she was discharged after first aid.

“All medical investigations have shown no grievous injuries on her,” said Kapoor,

A case has been registered by the police. Gautam Budh Nagar SSP Dharmendra Singh said, “An FIR has been lodged under section 147, 148, 504, 506, 323 of IPC into the matter.”

According to Singh, 10 miscreants are involved in attacking the woman. The driver of the cab fled the spot. “We are in touch with Ola officials and getting cab and driver details,” he said.

The woman is pursuing her studies in New Delhi and had come to Greater Noida to see her friend in Sector Pi 1&2.

Adamu Muhammed, a resident of Alstonia society and her friend narrated the incident as told by the victim.

“Some local boys dragged her out of the cab and beat her up. She’s in trauma and is not speaking to anyone on the matter.”

Gautam Budh Nagar superintendent of police (rural), Sujata Singh, said the incident took place at around 4.30 am . “Some locals intercepted the cab at Sector Omicron, dragged her out and slapped her. The victim is in deep trauma.”

The police have assured a swift action into the matter.

Alstonia society is mostly occupied by African nationals and miscreants must have targeted vehicles going towards the area, she added.

After the spate of incidents more police force has been moved in to Greater Noida, an additional rapid action force and quick response teams are being deployed in the area, she said.

The attack is the third against Africans in Greater Noida since Sunday. Last week a 17-year-old boy died of cardiac arrest following suspected drug overdose, and local people blamed African nationals, saying they had supplied him the drugs.

Kenyan Woman had lied about the Attack

GREATER NOIDA: The Kenyan woman who had alleged that she was beaten up by some local men on Wednesday morning in Greater Noida had lied to police, the Association of African Students in India (AASI) said. According to office-bearers of AASI, Maria Burendi gave wrong information to police because she was facing some "mental problems".
The association has also apologised to the Indian community over the incident.

"She has some family problems, that's why she gave some wrong information," Charles Kennedy, vice-president, AASI told TOI. "Yesterday, everything she said about what she was doing was totally wrong," he added.

Asked whether she was forced to retract her statement, former president of AASI, Emmanuel, said: "She was not pressured by anyone. Secondly, on her behalf, we want to apologise for blaming Indians for the attack," he said.
"We don't want the case to be prolonged. There is no need to investigate without any reason," Emmanuel said.

According to the association, the Greater Noida police will not lodge a complaint against her for giving false complaint as she has been assured by the Kenyan Embassy that a compromise has been reached to withdraw the complaint. "There will not be any more complaints, this case is over," Emmanuel said in the presence of Fredrich K Ndegwa, consul from the High Commission of Kenya.
On Thursday, at a press conference hurriedly called by city police, SSP Dharmendra Singh said the cab driver had refuted the version of the woman.
Claiming that he picked up the woman from DPS Society before 6 am and dropped her at a flat in Omicron 1A, the driver said there was no assault on her during the journey.
"I got a booking from DPS Society flat number 155. I picked her up and dropped her at Omicron 1A. Before she got dropped, she called someone and a man stepped out from the flat. He gave me a note of Rs 500. When I told them there was no change, the woman handed over Rs 120 to me," said Pintoo Kumar, the Ola cab driver.
The Ola receipts accessed by TOI show that the woman's journey started at 5:37 am from DPS Society, Sector Pi, and ended at an "unnamed road" in Omicron 1A at 5:55 am.
The SSP said that at 7:30 am, the woman directly called the chowki in-charge of Alpha 1 area, Rajender Rana, who took her to Kailash Hospital, Greater Noida.
"She had the chowki in-charge's number as on Tuesday early morning (the day of the assault on Africans), she was roaming outside the same flat and the chowki in-charge escorted her to the flat. That time, she had taken his number. At around the same time on Tuesday night too, she had been travelling alone when Kasna inspector Awnish Dixit escorted her to the flat as the police were patrolling outside the Omicron roundabout," he said

Every allegation and news may not be true. The truth comes out only through proper ivestigation and fare trial. For this you ought to have strong public institutions, which we have.

We agree that some Indians are racist, not only people from particular region(we may agree that North Indians are more uncouth and unruly), but even the minorities accusing others of racism are also racist...though they may be a bit more covert in their feeling.

I don't think there is zero racism in any country. Only the means of expressing racism vary. Some show it by guns, others by slurs and stereotyping, and others may just comment behind your back.
As globalization takes place we should see lesser and lesser racial profiling in future.

Kenyan woman who faked assault by locals to 'quietly' leave India
The 24-year old Kenyan woman who faked assault on her by a group of locals in Greater Noida on Wednesday morning only to withdraw her case a day later, will be "quietly" sent back to Kenya. According to the Association of African Students in India (AASI) the decision to send her back to Kenya was taken by the Kenyan Embassy.

"The Kenyan Embassy is angry with Maria Burendi as she lied to them. She will be sent back and a decision to this affect will most likely be taken by Tuesday," Charles Kennedy, vice-president AASI said. The woman confirmed to TOI that her papers are being worked on.

According to sources, as the Kenyan authorities have asked for her return, India will not deport her which will entail official intervention. They added that India does not want to deport her given that it shares good ties with Kenya. Kenya will quietly take her back which is being facilitated by India.

The woman had alleged that on Wednesday morning, her Ola cab was stopped by a group of 10-12 locals, who beat her up. However, the cabbie and the receipts of the Ola drive confirmed that there was no such incident.

The Kenyan Embassy had later decided to withdraw the case even as the AASI sought an apology from the Indian community for using the names of Indians for the assault.
