While I do not see any reason to reverse engineer R-77 and R-73, given the fact that the American and Chinese systems seem to be performing better, I do believe that we lack an indigenous technical base for developing A2A missiles (and medium-range SAMs) and that we should invest in such systems, even if only for the sake of experience.

i believe that r 73 is not junk if we syart reverse engineer it we can learn alot just help the university students so they can get inside out how it work. i can be wrong but its just my view

out gunned does not mean that we cannot help our students to get the basic knowledge about the air to air missile

Very good point. I am sure we can learn something from those missiles. Remember , a lot of inventions happened accidentally i.e people stumbled upon it. What if one of the guys who is trying to study the missiles comes up with a better idea ?
