Question for Indonesian friends: Resource for Buginese Language ?

I'm interested in learning Buginese Language. Do you have any resources where one can go about learning the language? Advanced Thanks!

I think Katarabhumi can help bro.......but as far as I know, Bugis or Makassar people ( same place of origin ( South Sulawesi) but different tribe) use Malay language (Indonesian Language), but they use distinctive tone while speaking. And as far as I know all Indonesian ethnics can speak and understand Indonesian language very well, including Papuan ethnic. For your information, we have 90 % literacy rate since long time ago ( Soeharto Regime). I believe there is no need to learn our local Language. But if you are really interested for that, good luck bro...........

Makassar and Bugis have their own language which they still use in daily conversations. Only people in the cities like Makassar speak in Indonesian/Makassar Malay. But yes most people are understand Indonesian language despite they chose to converse in local language.




The best way is to go to Bugis land and learn directly from Bugis people.

Are you fluent in Bugis, buddy? I'm looking for some classes here but i can't find any , perhaps there is an online teaching course to learn Bugis? The reason , btw, for my interest is because I'm an avid linguist -- and have a deep interest in dialects of the Philippines, Borneo, and Sulawesi / Celebes. I might be traveling to Sulawesi this coming fall --- and would like to have a basic command of Buginese language.

Not at all buddy, sorry.

There are no class for local languages. You have to learn through direct interact with the speakers.

IMO, culturally, North Sulawesian are more close to the Phillipinos.

Nice to see you here, buddy! Yes i'm really interested in learning your language --- i am somewhat / fairly proficient in language of orang suluk, orang bisaya. So i somewhat have an understanding of the lexicon and subject verb relationship in the language of the region. Some of our Indonesian friends tell me that Buginese is somewhat similar to Filipino dialects, so hopefully this will be good news so i won't be walking in the dark, LOL.

Both of my sisters and older brother, they are student in Oita University. But I'm afraid they have no time to teach u because they are busy with their research....

Oh wow ! So Buginese is very similar to Bisaya Sinug-buanon (Cebuano) Language, too.

The word for "people" in Sinug-buanon (Cebuano) is = Tau

Matay / Patay = Dead

Manok / Manokan = Chicken

Goat = Canding / Kanding

To Read = Basa Basa

Numbers:

1 = usa / osa
2 = duwa
3 = tulo / tulu
4= opat / ompat
5= limah / lima
6 = unom / onom
7 = pito
8= walo
9= syam / sayam
10 = Na sapulo


Is it similar to Bugis?

There are some Filipino members here who are from Southern Philippines and are natural speakers of Bisaya
