Question about the turkish people

How much do the turkish people today feel related to the byzantians (romans) who lived there before the ottomans?

like how is it in comparison to iran where mostly expats are proud of their pre-islamic history and iranians in iran are either ignorant of the history or fiercely islamic ?

I don't think so , zartusht was born in southeast iran and took refuge in northeast iran ; what does byzantine mean?

i read it in some book , because people there didn't like him , but it makes sense overall cause nietzsche also said in his book zartusht went to live in "solitude" when he was young

For people, Byzantines were just a historical hostile country that ended with the conquest of Istanbul, but its about the empire, we continued to live together with Greeks(which we call "Rum") our cultures and life styles mixed with each other we're so close, although due the hostilities we'e not much close today.

Guess the Iranians have identity crises, most iranians who live here in europe (that I know of) eat pork, but then again some turks who come here without their roots also have same identity crises... mostly "students" from istanbul etc.... yuck...

Turkey and Turks as we know them today are a relatively new people.

Hardly sons of the soil. More imports from another.

I was referring to the land that is now Turkey, in older times.

With a Zoroastrian past.

Only your land is older than that, and there were others there before you which is what the OP is about.

Personally, I myself know very little as most of my interest lies in Iran.

But I would like to know more.

Ok, first there were Hittites. Then Phyrgians, Lydians, Urartus ( third one was probably proto-Armenoid, i dunno, i dont care).

After then, Persians conquered Anatolia and ruled it through vassals, according to Herodotos. Then Alexander the Great came, western Anatolia adopted slowly Greek language. Then Romans came and evolved into Byzantine Greek civilisation.

In 10th century Pechenegs and Cumans pushed into Byzantine from west, in11th century Oghuzs pushed into Byzantine from east. Then came Mongols and another Turkic immigration happened in 13th century.

Old historians Tell this tales more faboulosly.
