Question about Nishan-e-Haider

I know the Victoria cross is made from the captured Russian guns from Sevastapol. Soo it would not be unusual.

Nishaan-e-Haider is supposed to be the equivalent of the Victoria Cross. Given for going beyond the call of duty and not thinking of personal safety and doing what needs to be done for the betterment of country.

I have to agree with the idea behind the the VC being made of a more base metal than gold. The medal is worthless until it is associated with a specific act. I have noticed that a lot of poorer families would sell medals when the became financially strapped. A gold medal would go first.....

However as I have explained above I am not a fan of making from expensive metals. The act should stand as it's own value.

Some relative of VC winner recently sold it for a million pounds but most winners donate it back to the regiment they served in for it to be preserved in the battalion museums.

it is made of brass, at first you could walk in any army store and buy it but not any more well not in the mid 80s. When the person gets it, It comes in 2s one for the Unit he served in and one for the family. Yes it is actually for Rs:580/- as of today. But when the family gets it the price is in millions. Not only the price goes up because of the importance, Family gets a lot of other benefits.
