Aug 8 (Reuters) - Chipmaker Qualcomm Inc is lobbying the U.S. government to revoke restrictions on sale of components to Huawei Technologies Co, after the Chinese company was blacklisted by the United States, The Wall Street Journal reported https://www.wsj.com/articles/qualco...es-11596888001?mod=searchresults&page=1&pos=1 on Saturday.

Qualcomm is lobbying to sell chips to Huawei that the Chinese company would include in its 5G phones, according to the report, citing a presentation by Qualcomm.

With these restrictions, the U.S. has handed Qualcomm's foreign competitors a market worth as much as $8 billion annually, the report said.

Qualcomm did not immediately reply to a Reuters request for comment.

The company resolved a licensing dispute with Huawei last month, which will pay Qualcomm a catch-up payment of $1.8 billion in the fiscal fourth quarter.

This doesn't sit right be me, financing Qualcomm's R&D at the expense of HiSilicon because of US sanctions is a sleazy trade practice. Even if they granted Huawei an exemption I think they should stick with MediaTek.

US semiconductor industry is fuelled by China. Yes, China is still reliant on some core technologies but US semiconductor supremacy is only possible because China keeps buying.

Which points to a question what if China overtakes US in semiconductor?

Huawei 5G Kirin IC is now on the eve of bankrupting Qualcomm, until GoUS intervene. China IC industry if allowed to mature will kill the entire US peers. Now TSMC is killing Intel.

US is now nipping China in the bud.

Huawei shouldn't get the deal atleast until the US-Election. Else Trump would score it as his success and pushes hes election.

Also in consideration of the raising unemployment in the US, the US-Companies needs chinese contracts more than China needs the US-Companies.

Just let them suffer.
