Chinese state media reports that a Chinese company has built the power plant in Bahawalpur, in the Punjab province of Pakistan.

The Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park is a 229-hectare facility in the Cholistan desert, and has been hailed as an early part of China's Silk Road program. According to China Daily, 100-megawatts of capacity have been installed in just three months, at a cost of $215 million. The investment is part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a $46 billion scheme planned by Chinese President Xi Jinping, according to The Nation.



COST about $131 million

Present installed capacity 100 MW
Projects : 1,000 MW by 2016 (Cleaner 100% non hydro carbon based technology)

At end of the Project this would be the "LARGEST" Solar power plant in world !!! at 1,000MW capacity



In just 3 Months , 100MW powerplant was made operational just 3 mere months !!!

The first 100 MW project is owned 100% by the government of Punjab, Bank of Punjab. The turnkey contractor for the project is Tebian Electric Apparatus (TBEA) Xinjiang SunOasis Co. Ltd. The installation of the plant was completed within a record time of 3 months (Nov 2014 to Jan 2015), and it is currently under testing and commissioning.




One could imagine if similar project was done in Balouchistan , and power sold from Balouchistan to other provinces instead of buying gas/power from Qatar would do good for local economy

Balouchistan has enough land and PURE SUNLIGHT ........100% bright light of desert to fuel whole country if we plan the solar farms correctly in that province

If Punjab is the food hub - Baluchistan can become the Power Generator for country
FREE - CLEAN energy

This project however is something to be proud of no doubt

this is another show off from PMLN govt.this solar park is a shit, a junk for us, it is not of 100 MW, true facts r not shown to public, its maximum power generating capacity is 100MW which only be generated in may or june between 12am to 2 pm.its per unit cost is about 30 rupees and on yearly base its capacity is about 12 to 20MW a slap to us who dont know.

Who told you all this rubbish about unit cost and Electricity generation? any authentic source you got or you are blondly following knowledge less journalists. who just know crap regarding technical issues.

but u r forgetting that a Dam is also a water reservoir.if its cost is high it also stores water,stops flood,and gives our land a new look,boosts our agriculture and economy + cheap source of electricity

get out of this troll maths, and get real.....

the 100MW that is currently there doesn't give 100MW continuous power supply. It's just 100MW worth of solar panels. 100MW rating is for standard test environment which is usually 25 degree celcius temp and 1000w/m2 irradiance.

1000w/m2 irradiance is a very hot day. You get that in the peak of summers for not more than 2-3 continuous hours per day. On average a 100MW solar PV system will be producing around 300-400MW-hr at the very max. As opposed to 2400 MW-hr which you should get on a 100MW diesel/coal etc. which produces rated power continuously day and night.

So basically this plant is roughly 100X(350/2400) = ~15MW continuous power supply, maybe even less.

At a cost of USD131million/15MW , this is roughly USD8.7 million/MW of capacity. Taking dollar at rs.100/dollar, and assuming the plant has a life of 15yrs, and required rate of return on investment of just 10%, the lowest possible price for the electricity supplied by this plant is around rs.20-22/kw-hr. Also assuming the sun works fine :P.

So that guy above, he's actually right about what he's saying.....I've just made the calculations.

Its finalized cost is 14-15Pkr for first ten years which will further reduced to 8Pkr/Unit.

ofcourse i know it very well i my research area is power quality. if you are using efficient converter the losses are not that high. the main thing which we need to worry about is theft and line losses.

All I know is solar energy is not calculated due to hotness of weather rather then direct access to the light Its the reason why its used in most Space missions involving small rovers on cold planet surfaces like mars etc. Or the fact that its used in space crafts , traveling to outer corners of solar system

Solar panels work from moment Sun Rises to Sun Set , they continue to collect small amount of energy from the light coming from starts and moon.

With vast amount of land in Balouchistan available, Pakistan could use 0.01% of the land and create 5-6 Such large scale projects , to yeild enough power needed compared for Pakistan National Grid.

The only people who oppose it are

a) People who sell gas addicted to purchasing and commissions
b) People who sell petrol
c) People who have stake to buy petrol from Saudis and then take commission

  • Baluchistan is GOLD for energy , clean energy in Pakistan

Only time the output goes down is during rain season or cloudy weather

However unlike HYDROCARBON , you don't get cancerous air pollution and also you do not contribute to green house gas emission.

In US people have invested in solar pannels , and they have produced enough energy as guaranteed by Pannels , to take them off the grid.

Sure there may be 5%-8% variance but they are not paying Electricity bill or 80% of their needs are met from Solar with one time expense

Pakistan blessed with so much SUNSHINE ... its a no brainer


I think the Qauid-e-Azam Solar pannel is the brightes project going and PML has to get credit for it

However it would have been even greater had they choosen Balouchistan for its SUNSHINE

Its a great project

Only need 0.01 % of Balouchistan Land , and 4-5 Billion 1 time investment for a Mega Solar project

No need to beg Saudis
No need to beg Qataris for gas
No need to send any troops for Middle east
No need to listen to any threats

Your own land , your own money , your own power

I wish people can understand this difference as you mentioned in your post solar energy doesn't mean you need high temperature its more dependent on light.

I for one , and glad at the project , while I do not support PML , but this initiate is something great for Pakistan as a country and had it been expanded to Baluchistan , it would haven been a monumental project

Because we have so much land in Baluchistan and 99-100% sunny days in Baluchistan.

Ideally the religions where the 4 provinces meet would be idea location for the project so power could be exported to other provinces

KALA Bagh DAM is also equally esssential as it provides drinkable water and prevents floods
