On Feb 6th, 2016, the Quadrilateral Coordination Group (QCG) which consists of the U.S., Pakistan, Afghanistan and China, has held two round table talks to discuss the Afghan-led peace and reconciliation efforts. This would be the third meeting between representatives of all four nations since the beginning of this year. The QCG member countries all agreed that friendly, mutually respectful and cooperative relations between the member states of QCG are necessary to create an enabling environment for the peace process in Afghanistan, which will help ensure the security, stability, prosperity, and interests of the region.

Both Afghanistan and Pakistan recognize that there are militants on both sides of the border who are against any kind of peace and are attacking people indiscriminately. But both countries can work together through these meetings to come to a mutually acceptable and plausible path in defeating those terrorists who continue to conduct cross border attacks, and discuss the role of those who want to lay down arms. To this end, the QCG called on all Taliban groups to enter into early talks with the Afghan government to resolve all differences politically and in accordance with the will of the Afghan people and the support of the QCG member countries.

Even amid tensions and mistrust, the fact that these member nations are willing to come together and discussion the roadmap to a peaceful Afghanistan and consequentially a peaceful region says volumes about the commitment of these nations to peace and a brighter future.
