Chairman Qatar Airways is part of delegation accompanying Emir of Qatar, could there be a possibility of them buying 26% shares in PIA?

Yes may be. Transparency is not the word or the practice nooras have ever heard about.

Good. PIA can no longer compete on its own with other ME carriers.

Qatar can really help PIA grow and compete with the likes or air Arabia, Emirates, Eithad and so forth.

it would seem so and I don\t think it is anything wrong.
PIA is a white elephant, and it is best sold to competent management.
Look at PTCL; Etisalat is running it better than it was before.

Maybe, we could talk about the Mirages now too.

I think if Qatar is going to make in roads then PIA will be no more, they will try to build upon there brand name, thats how big companies go.

A national airline with govt, even if its a white elephant, its is a must, as around it lot many covert operations can be taken care off. India has a reason to fly Indian Airlines on some far east locations of India. You can easily build a civilian airport in region where you want airstrip closer to enemy but dont want to provoke international pressures and cover it up by sending your national airlines.

Why are you guys crying? It will be great if someone buys PIA right now, even if just 26%. Qatar will do us a favor actually.

I hate to say this, but why don't you go lecture about Air India than talk about PIA. Plus, Pakistani gov't isn't as rich as Indian gov't that we can bail it out every time or keep it running at the cost of other developments.

I heard Air India is going to be sold out or something like that. Let it fly, even though it is a white elephant, no?

I dont think you would be very much interested in hearing more about Air India, given that you cant phantom the importance of National Airline...

Its only 26% of PIA's share which they will have to share with Mian Mansha (Richest Pakistani), PIA can buy those shares back when it becomes a profitable entity (just like MH did)

We're not selling our airline. As I mentioned and below user mentions, we will retain majority of shares and can buy it back at any moment. Plus being majority share holder means we have higher say than Qatar does.

Now what you got in defense of Air India being sold completely?

For readers' information: Air Arabia is a low cost carrier founded on 3 February 2003 and commenced operations on 28 October 2003.

PIA a national carrier is not even able to compete with it in profits and operations, let alone Emirates, Etihad, Qatar airways etc...

If you have an MNC investing in your domestic airline then you are as open as book.
As far as India is concerned, india has evolved over it, got lot of things already in place and lot is shaping up.

Just to give you an idea, in 2010 the committe formed for disinvestment in Air India, said “A plan for progressive disinvestment of the government’s stake in Air India over a period of three to five years, based on a phased scheme with defined milestone, should be achieved,”

The government, in April 2012 approved financial support of over Rs 30,000 crore to the airline to be spread over a period of nine years till 2020-21. The national carrier has already received Rs 12,000 crore in the first two years and the government, in its interim budget, has another Rs 5,000 crore for FY15.

And this was done because the back channels or the alternate mechanism to take care of operations was not ready, and by 2025 india should have a system ready after which selling out Air India would not make much difference.
