Upcoming elections: PTI, Qadri likely to ally against PML-N

LAHORE:

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is likely to join hands with Minhajul Quran International chief Dr Tahirul Qadri to form a grand alliance against the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in Punjab, for the upcoming general elections.

A high level delegation of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), led by Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Javed Hashmi, met Minhajul Quran International (MQI) Dr Tahirul Qadri on Wednesday, in this regard, The Express Tribune has learnt.

In a joint press conference issued after the three-hour long meeting, both Qadri and the PTI leaders supported each other’s call for the reconstitution of the election commission and vowed to jointly rid the country of the ‘corrupt’ and ‘cruel’ political system.

Qadri’s younger son Dr Hussain Mohayuddin, while exclusively talking to The Express Tribune, confirmed that the MQI would form a political alliance with the PTI in the future. He also said that the MQI’s political wing, the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), would contest the upcoming general elections in alliance with other political parties, including the PTI.

Asked either PAT would contest the elections as part of a grand alliance or on seat adjustment with other parties, Mohayuddin said that constituency matters, such as seats adjustment, campaign, symbol and alliance, would be discussed in their second meeting.

The PAT has also already shown interest in contesting the elections in alliance with the PML-Quaid and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in Punjab.

PTI’s strategy

According to senior leaders of the PTI, the party plans on holding consultations on all important issues – such as seat adjustment, the ECP and the president’s dual office – with all political and religious parties that are not of Parliament. The meeting held with Dr Qadri was part of this effort.

The high-level delegation, which besides Mehmood and Hashmi includes Dr Arif Alvi and Ijaz Chaudhary, was constituted to execute this task prior to the upcoming general elections.

Besides the MQI, the party has also held meetings with Jamait Islami in the first phase.

In next phase, the PTI delegation will hold talks with all political and regional political parties in Sindh and Balochistan, and will submit a report to its political strategy committee (PSC) for a final decision.

PTI Central information secretary Shafqat Mehmood confirmed that talks with all political parties would be completed within a month. (With additional reporting by Anwer Sumra in Lahore)

They should be united not only against PML-N but also against PPP & other dog culprit politicians. I really hope that these upcoming elections turn out good to be for Pakistan & we don't get to see PPP or PML-N.

Now there is a question APML Gen. Musharraf's party also supports Dr. Tahir, so are we going to see Imran Khan & Gen. Musharraf getting united for Pakistan & to save Pakistan from these dog politicians?

They should do it to save Pakistan & Imran Khan needs to put his ego & tsunami craze aisde & he should join hands with Gen. Musharraf because the goal & the aim is the same, which isto save Pakistan & it is clear from Gen. Muhsarraf "SAB SAI PAHLAY PAKISTAN".

Joining Mush wud be a political suicide for IK right now, although i personally feel this alliance cud be the best for the country.

There is no unification as its being poorly commented upon. PTI just happens to agree with Qadri's stand against the ECP formation.

Apparently, all those rumors of Shah Mehmood being against Qadri would be nullified by this picture:

Quite frankly when the Long March ended with a deal - thats what was on everyone's mind. But its safe to say Qadri has still pushed the matter.

I actually like the Long March declaration text, he didn't get a commitment from them, but did got them to say they would consider these points. To the sensible electorate that's admission that these points are valid. Now when they betray Qadri and don't live up to the deal, they would end up losing face.

What is the latest update of PMLN dharni?

Quite Frankly Arif Alvi called him Status Quo and now they have joined hands against ECP

Wahin Jahaan yeh baat gaye "Musharaff ki baaqiyaat ko party mein nahin lein gey"

On a serious note, bad move by PTI. This alliance with TUQ is a recipe for disaster. Meanwhile IK has already ruled out alliance with TUQ for now. Lets see what happens.
