Turkish model: Punjab to have Dolphin Police unit, says CM

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday announced that a Dolphin Unit would be started in the Punjab Police along the pattern of Dolphin Unit in Turkey.


He said officials would be inducted to the unit on merit.

He said the Dolphin Unit would help eradicate street crime from the province.

He was talking to a delegation of the national police of Turkey. The delegation was led by Mustafa Ozguler.

Matters related to the dolphin unit and an integrated command and control centre were discussed during the meeting.

MPA Shuja Khanzada, inspector general of police, the home secretary and the Punjab Information Technology Board chairman were also present.

Sharif said Pakistan and Turkey had strong cultural ties.

He said that cordial relations between the two countries had developed into stronger economic ties.

He said the cooperation of the Turkish police in setting up the Dolphin Unit and training the Punjab Police was a welcome step which would further cement Pakistan-Turkey relations.

He said a team of the Dolphin Unit would consist of four police officials. He said Turkish police experts would train officials of the Dolphin Unit. He said the dolphin unit would start working at the end the year.

Sharif said Turkish police experts would also prepare master trainers for the training of officials of the Dolphin Unit.

He said the command and control centre in Lahore would be completed along the pattern of the command and control centre in Istanbul.

He said modern equipment would be installed at the centre.

He said the centre would be linked to CCTV cameras installed arund the city.

The chief minister said 1,800 spots had been selected for installation of cameras in Lahore. He said command and control centre would also be completed by the end of the year.

Ozguler said the Turkish government was looking forward to working with the Punjab government.

He said all possible cooperation would be extended to the Punjab government for the command and control project and the Dolphin Unit.
